    Default It works

    Mine works.
Did a test cut today. Didin't push the model down into the material far enough so i ended up with a bit of veneer left on it. Seems to have come out fine.

Looks good for a first try.

How big is it and how long did it take?

    300x200 10mm relief
    Roughing about 10 mins i think. 3D about 1 1/2 hours
MDF doesn't machine nice a litle bit fluffy. No idea if a slower speed would help. Time and a few experiments wil tell.

MDF will fluff no matter what the speed. It is pressed giving it the good surface finish.
You can improve the finished carving with a light sanding but IMHO if you are spending 1 1/2 hours cutting it then spend a little and get a material that will present well.
MDF is abrasive and will take a kean edge off a cutter quickly.
Nice job for your first carving. .

I never expected much from MDF. Will have to find a bit of 20mm acrylic and reverse engrave just the dragon, that will look nice.
That was just a bit of Tassi oak veneered left over from making a wall of cupboards and desks in the shed, only wood i had here. I'm not realy into wood. Maybe shouldn't say that on a woodworkers forum . I do play with a lot of balsa though

Holy bugger, just checked out your boat build. What a monster. How do you get time to make a CNC and a boat?

Thats why i didn't make a CNC, just bought it . The build will have to wait till we come back from cruising. I have a fair bit of Carbon fiber and bits of balsa left over so maybe a full composite machine just to see how well it works.
There is about 8 cubic meters of balsa in the boat. Does that qualify me as a wood worker
