    Default Jobott

Just in case you thought I was relaxing watching movies here is a joint project I am working on. Tubot has cut most of the ally except the gantry sides which were done on Morphy.
Full 1200 by 1200 by 140 cutting envelope and while it is mobile it needs two people to move it. There is a lot of 8mm thick metal in the build and it weights heaps.
I'll pop back here in a month or so and post the finished product - hopefully it wil be finished by then.
    Cheers,
    Rod

Wow Rod that's a big table!
Very professional, it looks like something you would walk in and buy at a trade show!

Hope to see some video of it running if you get a chance!

    Cheers

Thanks all but I can't claim sole responsibilty for this one. It started about the same time Tubot started and initially it was being created in two sheds about 10km apart. Recently the base was transported to my place and with Tubot finished it was full steam ahead as the bits were put together. About a months work to go and all the bits are here so just some fabrication and machining to go.
The machine is for the other fellow although it would be nice to have this in my machine room. We might have an arm wrestle over that.

And I was about to reply that you did a great job. So instead I'll say...whow..great team effort.

How is the X axis driven, seeings it's 1200mm wide? Just looked again.... and I cant see the Y - axis motor either?

    Hi Brad,
It has been good to have some company while doing this part of the build.
It will be twin ballscrews on X to stop racking and single on Y. The Y axis ballscrew will be behind the gantry to give it a little protection and a cable tray on top of the gantry will help as well.
The gantry beam is 1530 long and by the time the gantry sides and cap screw are fitted it is around 1580 wide. My double gates are 1600 post to post if I remove the gates which is 10mm clearance each side. I can't fit motors or X axis cable tray unless I move it to the carport first.
I should just add them and claim ownership but knowing Joe he will arrive with a gas axe and make room.
    Cheers,
    Rod

Ah.. and I thought you had come up with some sort of super cloaking device to hide them like the Klingons use the hide their bird of prey... hahaha .. I can't see them cause they arent there. I momentarily forgot this was a build thread .

    Brad,

I've got these 3D glasses from when I saw Avatar.... so I put them on, saved your images to my computer then rotated the images sideway.... All I could see was someone in your kitchen cooking dinner? Damn that cloaking device is good!!

Jobott is my final build and was finally running last night. Wohoooo

The logistics of moving the machine was carefully planned and executed to perfection. I built the machine under my patio due to lack of shed space so the restriction was that my double gates to the driveway are 1600mm if the gates are removed. I took off the extreme bits until the clearance was 10mm each size.

The machine weights around 500kg so it was a delicate move to the carport where the removed bits were re-fitted. I then had a night and full day to wire the machine which I failed to accomplish.

A car trailer with a winch was used to load and transport the machine and at the other end a boat winch attached to a towing hitch on a car was used to offload the machine. You have to use what is available. It was a show stopper on the road as a Mercedes was the tow car and to most they probably are still scratching their head wondering what that thing was on the trailer.

Another couple of long nights and finally last night Jobott is alive. Tomorrow should see the icing on the cake with electronic spindle control (DC06) installed and a couple of finishing touches that I have prepared tonight.
Jobott has taken around seven months to completion so it has been a long haul and difficult at times to retain focus.
There has been no expense spared in the build and it is housed in a purpose build room that will be eventually lined for noise and dust exclusion. It's the perfect setup that I envy.

Smiles all round now it is working and I'll post a couple of photos tomorrow night to confirm it is reality.
    Cheers,
    Rod

    Hi Marty,
They bulk up a bit with wring and all the fittings and it was difficult to get a good photo as I couldn't get back far enough to take the shots. The rain and wind prevented opening the doors which would have made it easier but one of those days.
Anyway best I could do and this machine has all the fruit including a console and an Xbox360 wireless controller which is sitting on the table. This helps when you are setting up with the laser crosshair or touchplate at the other end of the machine.

I added a Logitech trackball to the console even though it has a touchscreen so that it can be operated conventionally.
    .
Every part of the base is used for either electronics, computer which is tucked behind the front doors, drawers for storage in the side and two large compartments with doors in the rear for air pump and vacuum. Ventilation in through a filter in the bottom middle of the machine with heaps of 12 volts fans creating the air flow.

We run a couple of jobs to commission the machine and I am pleased with it and that it is finally finished.
    Cheers,
    Rod

Another beautiful machine finished, well done.

Any videos of it in action?
