    Default Limit switch wiring

I just about to wire up my limit switches using single core shielded wire. I知 going to wire the switches in series, what I need to know is do I join the shielding at the switches so the shielding is one continuous piece and then earth one end only .
Does the shielding need to be one piece or just as along it covering the wire between the switches

    Regards,

    Hi Ken

I just cut the shielding and used a joiner on it for my shielding. The important thing is that it is earthed at one end only .

    Hi Ken,

You would also be better off to use a twin core shielded cable and running the return on the 2nd core rather than creating a loop with a single core.

Putting the shielding aside, you are creating a loop antenna using a single core.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Ah, this is actually what I did, as I used shielded twin core.

Do it the way Peter says. He knows lots about these things.

Since I 've only got single core how would it go if I run one wire between the common terminal of each switch then run a separate wire from each NC terminal of the switch to an input.
Or would it better to run a separate wire to each common terminal.
I would use the input terminals (4off) on the G540 and the input terminals (6off) the smoothsteppers Port 3. I would used Port 2 but haven't a Plug for the pins.

    Single unshielded = loop antenna.

I would be using shielded single core wire.
How would twin core differ from two single core wires?

Twin core has the benefit of reducing common-mode interference.

If you only have single core, I'd just run 2 cables to each switch with the source end's shields earthed (the switch end's shields unconnected) and hook it all up in series at the source end. It'll most likely work fine, if there's problems, then look at a plan B
