Mach 3, 6tpi acme leadscrew setup.
Hi guys can someone explain to me how to setup in mach3 a acme 6tpi leadscrew directly coupled to motor, I wish to work in metric, how can I set this up. Sorry but this steps and stuff is confusing me. I am running a Geko G540, I wish I could get my head around the math to do this conversion.
Thanks Pete

A typical stepper motor is 1.8 degrees or 200 steps per revolution.
A gecko has as standard 10 micro steps so mupliply this by 200 which gives you 2,000 microsteps per full revolution.
You are direct coupling so every revolution of a 6TPI screw moves the nut 1/6 of an inch. Convert this to metric by mulpiplying by 25.4 and you have 4.2333 mm per turn of the screw.
So for every 1mm movment of the nut you have to divided 2000/4.2333 which equals 472.445 steps per mm.Cheers,
Rod
