Meet Tubot
This has been a side project and while I have made some progress in the last week it is about to be shelved as a more important job will start this weekend.
It has the 8020 style T slot framing but typical of me I have over built it by placing 8mm plates around it. It is very heavy and thuds if you bang it with your fist - my technical test for mass.
Twin 1204 screws hence name Tubot.
It will probably reappear in three or so months with a bit more done to it.Cheers,
Rod

sure looks strong, will this be a tabletop machine?
Also where did you source your T-slot table? I'm still searching for some myself and it seems like flat T-slot carries with it a premium.

Hi Chris,
T slot table is expensive. I bit the bullet and got it from here. It is very rigid and section are thick so it is worth the expense. I have 36 T nuts holding the table down and I tricked it so that there are no fixings visible from the top.
Well it started as a desktop but as the weight grew it has become a fixed machine. I have a trolley for it and am building a console into it at the same time. It will be something different with two 8 inch touchscreens and all the usual fruit. It has been a long side project that will be a lot longer before it is finished.Cheers,
Rod

I'm playing around with other things now so I want to finish off what I have got. I have been milling ally for two weeks and I have glitter spread everywhere. I am plucking it out of my hair and pockets as I type.
I can laugh about it now but last night I pulled a truck off the end of the rail. The ball bearings I caught in my hand but I felt one hit the top of my foot. I was on the ground with a magnet in each hand sweeping the brick paving and I finally found it. I had to pull off another truck to count the bearings and luck was on my side as I had them all.
One of those moments you don't want.Cheers,
Rod

Looking good Rod,
I spose the next thing is, what project is going to be more important than this one... Or is it a highly guarded secret. lol.

Hi Daniel,
As the latest machines from China are so cheap and quality is acceptable there is little point in making something that will cost more. After all we built our machines because we could save huge amounts compared to what was available then.
I am building a machine for a mate that is 1200 square cutting envelope and finishing off Tubot and then moving on to other interests.
I am learning electronics as this has been a black hole for me and I would like to understand it a lot better. Robotics might be an interest as it is an extension of electronics and the CNC would come in handy. If I drop machine building I have a lot of frree time and I would like to do something with it so if I try a few things I'm sure I will find a niche.Cheers,
Rod

Hi Rod,
Sure looks like its got good thud factor.
Sound like the end of era though when you mention moving on to other interests. I guess after building Obott, Nobott, Rodot,Lebot and Tubot that a Robot would follow
I hope you post some pics of the 1200 x 1200 machine that you're making.
Cheers
Brian

Hi Brian,
The large machine has already had a lot of work done on it. The console (posted in the Pokeys thread) is finished as well as all the electronics. I have built those waiting for the machine base to be finished which it now is and will be transported to my place this weekend. This will be the third machine we have built together so I expect it to move along quite rapidly. Joe said he would post on here so I will leave it to him to do that.
As far as building machines I suppose it is the end of an era for me but I won't be disappering from the CNC community. I have had a lot of fun on the forum and should still be able to contribute to the projects thread.Cheers,
Rod

Hey Rod,
Some of the robotics stuff is very interesting, and i know that since you put everything into whatever you put your mind to, it won't be too long before you start nutting out some very cool projects.
Can't wait to see what you get up to.

Hi Daniel,
Yeah the robotics is very interesting and being a lot of one off projects it will keep the interest and brain ticking over. Don't tell Russell but it involves servos and I will never live it down if he hears about it.
Hi John,
My builds are repetitive and don't get a lot of interest so I am not contributing new ideas to the forum anymore. I will still post Tubot when it is finished and maybe Joe will post his machine so there will be two more. The forum needs new blood to bring in some fresh ideas which seems to be happening lately so timing is good for me to reduce my input.Cheers,
Rod

Thanks Steve
I have been getting a few nights work on Tubot even though the other machine has started.
I changed the X axis rails for bigger and stronger THK's as I felt it was a little under done there. It operated alright but better to fix it now if in doubt otherwise it is a lot more work later.
Fortuinately the main plates were able to be modified and I only had to make new bearing plates. This lifted the gantry 6mm which was a good thing anyway as I plan to use a 4th axis on this machine.
I may have done enough work on it to post something at the end of the weekend.Cheers,
Rod
