Milling Copper
Hi I have a friend who wants me to mill something into copper for him, just wondering if anyone has attempted this and if so what feeds and speeds were used and cooling or cutting fluids or pastes to use? Or anything else to consider
The copper he says will be 6mm thick .
Thanks in advance GaryIf ya can't make it perfect, make it rustic

Gary,
Check out chart 1 below. Your best bet with any of this is to locate a chart that shows the speed and feed rate to start with for:
1. A specific material (Copper in your case)
2. The cutter type (Carbide or HSS)
3. Diameter of cutter
This will give you the cutter speed and desirable feed rate.
The chart came from here, but i have seen better charts, but i can't find them

Speeds and Feeds Chart
Gary and all,
Here is a really useful speeds and feeds chart that I was referring to.
We use this at trade school and was compiled by the school.
Print it out and hang it on the wall next to your machines.
It's useful for a starter/entry speed/feed for materials and of course you will have to adjust things a little to get the best results for the machined article.
