Hi all, I am about to order a PDJ Pilot pro 2650,with controller, mach3, USB, limit switches and a bit of other stuff from the US with-out a spindle. I was thinking of a 2.2kw spindle and inverter (the type on ebay) and I am asking you guys if they are ok or should I look somewhere else. Also any advice about PDJ would be appreciated as I am fairly new to CNC
    My order would be

Hi Dor and welcome to the board.

You are choosing a very expensive way to get to where you are going. For the price that you are paying at PDJ you could get bigger and better direct from China.

The 2.2 kw spindles (complete with VFD) from China are good value for money and if, they ever stop working, it is still quite inexpensive to throw away the old and buy another.

Thanks for posting and I guess I know that I am paying a premium by purchasing something in the US. I have had some quotes from China and was worried about the bad reports I had read about the quality of the machine and sea freight, so that was my reason for looking further abroad. If and I say if I order the US model I can have it delivered by air for a fair price but I do agree that the unit is a bit exe !!!

One other question for you. What is the current drawn your average 2.2Kw spindle?? I was under the understanding it was about 10amps but I asked "ugracnc" dot com about his 2.2kw unit and inverter and he said 19amp with single phase input seems bloody high to me. Any way thanks

    Hi Dor

I don't know how many amps they draw, but my 4kw spindle will run on a 10 amp circuit so it can't be that much of a problem.

I am sure that somebody else will jump in here and give you more precise information.

I 'tonged' the supply to my inverter and 2.2kw motor a while ago at between 1.25 and 2A depending on speeds while it was under a light load (from memory)
It was a lot less than I thought it would be.

For about the same money you could get something like this.

According to the VFD, my 2.2kW spindle at 24,000 RPM draws about 3.1 amps. Not sure if that's input current or phase current tho. I'm gonna guess the former.

Thanks Bob for the link. I admit that the quotes from China are a lot of bang for your bucks but I still worry about the quality of the machine and the communication barrier and I like the two drives on the x axis on the US kit.
I am still open to all advice so thank you all.
