    Default Oem trigger help

    Hello all,

Was hoping someone might be able to help me out. I spent last night making up a small box with switches to use as an external e-stop and resume button and z zero etc. This was for the old machine but is a test run for the bigger machine. It has 4 switches on the front (Estop/Feedhold/Resume/Z Zero), it also has a jack, to plug the probe into, so i can use it as either the z zero plate or probe. Very simple to build and going to be a huge help(especially with tool changes, not having to walk back to the computer to press continue) and saves using the wireless keypad and keygrabber. But in making life easier on the cnc it gets harder for a while while setting it up.

It was easy setting up the OEM triggers for the EStop and Start/resume and Feedhold, but the last button for the z zero routine is troubling me. I Have the OEM Trigger Setup on the right pin and have setup the Trigger to run OEM Code 301 which should run a thing called SetTriggerMacro. I have a custom Macro (M999) setup with the z zero routine in the macro spot. Problem is after spending ages online last night and trying to sort out how to set it all up i ran outta ideas. What i found online just didn't seem to make sense. Where can i setup the SetTriggerMacro for OEM Code 301???? How can i use an input to run the Z Zero Routine???

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Daniel
P.S Can post photos of the setup if anyone would like to see them.

I know there are many ways to skin a cat.

But the only way I have done this is with a macropump and brain.

    Hi Daniel,

Yes photos and if you could do a sort of tutorial I am sure lots would benefit - I know I would. The mach site has the answers but you have to know what to look for.
Are you runing the switches through a bob, etc?
I have done heaps of switches on my console but most of these work with keygrabber and I just add a button in screen design and assign an OEM code or VB script to the button.
Maybe a new thread of how to might be the go.
Throwing ideas in the ring for comment.
    Cheers,
    Rod

    Hey Rod and Greg,

Thanks for the replies.Driving to work today i had a brain storm and currently installing mach 3 onto my laptop to check to see whether what i think is there, is there. I realise i am over thinking things as usual. After checking the mach site i realise that it is indeed alot simpler than what i need(For the time being). I will setup the trigger with a hot key from within the ports and pins setup. I will just assign it as the onscreen button that i use with my wireless keypad from within screen designer. I do however want to find out if its possible to run the macro without this onscreen button since i would like to remove it and replace it with just the DRO for thickness of plate and then have some buttons for video centering and other bits and pieces.

I will get some photos tonight of the small box and write a small tutorial on setting up the BOB inputs as input triggers for buttons or similar. Not sure when i will get a chance since i am off for a week next week. Its a simple, short tutorial but i also have some jobs to pump out before i go.

    Hello Again,

Good news is it looks as though i have figured out most of what i needed from the mach site for setting up a macro to the OEM INPUT TRIGGER 301. What i will do is write a small tutorial on that too. I was pretty close in what i tried to do in setting it up but still a fair way away. I knew i needed to set up the SetTriggerMacro but didn't know how to set it up. I tried just setting it up in the mdi line and realise i should have done it in script editor...makes sense. Only problem is that i need to run a small script to setup the tirgger macro each time i run mach 3. Now i just ened to find a way to setup a macro to be executed during startup. It will be good in the future if they add a way to haev extra trigger macros setup easily. Maybe in the autosetup menu in ports and pins, have a button to attach a macro to the oem trigger. Will try this later tonight but should work.

You can put it in the "Init String" on the config page. Just call a macro number.

    Thanks greg,

I haven't yet had a chance to try out the code setup mainly because i had a job that needed to be cutout last night and by the time i finished i had forgotten to set it up. That init code, obviously that is the macro files that run when mach 3 starts?

Good news is though, i shortened the time frame since i didn't have to walk around to the computer so many times since i had a handy go button. I have taken a few photos of the setup and will post them later after i transfer them off the camera and reduce their sizes.

    Hey All,

although i haven't tested everything at home (thats tonight's job) i will post these photos of the box i made. Mainly i just used what i still had laying around in the scrap box. The wiring was very simple, although i did scorch 1 wire when i wasn't paying attention. This was because i used a gas portable soldering iron. I will write up a small tutorial on wiring up a small box like this and PDF when i can get a chance.
