Probes
what probes do you guys use , and what software as well
i bought a cheep Romanian probe off ebay and havent yet checked its accuracy , from what i understand , you run software to stab at set points , over an existing object , and it draws a cloud of X Y Z positions in CAD ?

it just seams to me a switch is over kill , if you insulate the object you want to copy from the spindle ( bread board ) and just use a 5 volt solid probe , at worst you will have to gold or silver leaf the object before probing
a picture of my probe
also does sideways probing , and is adjustable ( pole out of centre )
showing the 1/4 bull nose , i think if you probe with a 1/4 bullnose you have to use a 1/4 bullnose , it came with a dozen tips

Got to say nice timing with this thread just finished making a probe.
Made from stuff I had in the shed. It uses 6 balls and 3 rod design, casing and this probe are stainless steel. I put in 3 green LEDs that can be turn on or off on contact. One of the clear sealed holes can be seen in the upper casing.
My son is coming over after Christmas to get it up and running this should not be to hard as we played with the connection about a year ago and got a output.
But I would like to know about any software that can convert the data collected and get it back into my cad software.

cloud software down load at end of video , i haven't downloaded it yet just looking for more info and pasting here the good stuff i find
trying to find software to run probing
seams easy enough to VB one up , just open a data base , save each point in X,Y,Z fields , then use that data base to form a Mesh in Turbo Cad so you can edit the shape ,
not sure but i think MACH3 will only copy the probing movements ( learnt G-code) so will stab cut instead of nice smooth CAM tracks
