    Default CNC interest enquiry

I'm interested in the idea of a 4 axis CNC Router, so I have several questions.
The diameter for the 4th axis would be upto 120mm dia. at the present moment I have been using a modified Beall Pen Wizard, but that takes approx 3/4hr ea. to do the job.
When you build one, do you use a plan or is it done as you go? Where could one obtain plans if any exist, as I've not seen any mention of them on this forum?
What equipment is required to make one, and what is an approximate cost of components?
I have a small milling machine, small metal turning lathe, drill press etc. and a background in metal fabrication.
Are all components readilly available off the shelf or do they all come from O/S?
I use Autocad as a drawing package, would this be an acceptible program?
Some use racks while others use a screw arrangement, which is the better?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kryn

    Hi Kryn,
I built a Joe's 4x4 Hybrid that I'm very happy with. Doesn't have the 4th axis but that can be added later. I'm sure you've seen the discussion here about the Chinese add on. I don't think anyone has done a write up as yet, I think they are still waiting for them to arrive. With your background in milling and design work I think doing your own build would be very straight forward. Have a look at Welcome to Joe'sCNC.com the plans themselves are $100 and they have a very active forum with plenty of help available.

    Hi Kryn

If you already have a lathe and a milling machine, then why not just convert them to cnc?
That would be much cheaper and a lot faster.
