Question re CNC Mill
Is it possible to change this one into CNC?

It has the heavy duty stand for it.
Then I might finally get some use out of it. It has never even been started up.

No, it is impossible for that machine to do anything useful at all. Luckily for you, I am willing to drive up there and take it away for you so that it will free up some extra space for you to put something useful in its place.

My guess is that you could get the table X and Y movement under CNC control without much hassle or drama, but the head would be a rather challenging exercise.

I've seen a couple of conversions with the round column mill but the Z axis is controlled via the quill, not via moving the whole head like the smaller dovetail units.

Yes, it can be converted, but the round column presents some limitations.
The problem is that you can't keep the X/Y position when you adjust the head height via the column, so practically, you cannot change the head height via the column during a job.
That leaves the Z movement to de performed by the quill. From the machine specs, it seems that the quill travel is only 120mm. You need to decide if that is sufficient for what you want to use the machine for. If it is OK then it might be worth converting. I'd expecyt that most people would find 120mm Z travel too limiting
