Hi Noel,
Good to hear the buyer looked after you.
If you do find bearing can you share the size, part numbers and price. I have a feeling I will be looking for a set in the future.
ThanksCheers,
Rod

Hi Guys
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
Following Rod's request for info re; bearings, I have purchased (mortgaged the house more like) for my old spindle.
Got them from the local Bearings Supplies, who looked at the spindle and assured me these were the best for the job.
details are:
NTN bearings - made in Japan
Double row angular contact ball bearings
Model No: 7002CG/GNP4
Stamped on the bearings themselves is:
NTN 1272 - 0 - Japan JA 0
Dimensions are:
d = 15mm
D = 32mm
B = 9mm
Hope this helps those unfortunate enough to need to replace their spindle bearings in the future.
Oh Well - onward and upward.
Cheers
Noel

Just wondering what type of bearings did you replace? I seem to recall you mentioned 3 bearings are they all the same dimensions the other two are just deep groove?
Also is it a double row? just searching VXB and cant seem to find anything that small in a double row.
Im trying to work out how much im up for if/when my bearings go.

Hi Chris
Easy to confuse me!!!
I replaced all three bearings with these NTN bearings. They were recommended by Bearing services, and they are labelled as ""double row, angular bearings" but when I look closely at them, I can only see one row of balls????
(Really don't know a great deal about bearings, apart from the fact that they go 'wizzzzz'when I spin them.)
I also put an ammeter acros the inner and outer races and got a circuit, so I guesss they aren't ceramic, or other goody stuff - just plain metal. i supoose this makes things easier, in that I can still get my touch-plate to work through the spindle.
I don't know about VXB, but I would assume they would have comparable bearings.
Cheers

Cheers, still looks like it will cost as much as the spindle, thats going with the Japanese brand they have.
The standard Angular Contact bearings that VXB manufacture themselves seem to be 18,000 rpm max on grease, and the only compatible ones are a few of the Japanese ones they sell.

Hi Chris
Yeh - it is almost the same price for a new spindle and shipping, so I would not bother replacing bearings in the future. That way, i end up with a completely new spindle rather than old bits with new bearings - this is probably important, as some of the plastic bits and pieces don't look too strong, and are probably on their way out as well.
Would be VERY annoying to replace the bearings and then have the plastic bits give up the ghost.
Cheers
Noel
Oh - and a Very Happy New year to everyone on the forum.
catch you in the new year.

Forgive me if this has already been discussed in this thread,
I presume that the Chinese ebay sellers are purchasing their spindles at the best price point possible to compete on the ebay market.
Very likely they can also purchase the same spindles with quality bearings.
Perhaps they can be persuaded to offer the quality bearing option for a little more money.
I for one would be happy to pay another hundred dollars for spindle with quality bearings.
Has anyone talked with a ebay seller regarding this possibility?

looks like the sellers have already bitten the bullet , last month they changed to " German Bearings ", whether there good german made bearings, just cheep bearings made in germany or the bloke who makes them in china has a german last name ??? , only time will tell , they were ex hongkong
i was looking for a head ( block ) setup , where the big industrial bearing take the load coupled to a normal spindal ( 3k ) but they apear to be as rare as hens teeth ( auto change would be great )

Hi Guys
Thanks for the responses about those troublesome bearings.
I will follow Greg's excellent suggestion, and send off an email to Aaron Bai in Chine. I have had a few dealings with him and he seems to be fairly responsive.
Perhaps Rod could send a similar request to Chai.
Anyway - at the worst we will only get 'no response'- and at best, we might end up with the option of paying a little more for ceramic bearings installed in new spindles.
Can always live in hope.
Will let everyone know how I get on.
Cheers
Noel

Just so no-one gets any wrong ideas about German bearing any more: no standard commercial bearing types are manufactured in Germany AT ALL now. The German manufacturers have all relocated their mass manufacturing to China. I suspect most if not all European bearing manufacturers have.
The only bearings still made in Germany are super precision and exotic materials bearings. I guess that's why there is such a HUGE difference between standard commercial bearings and P rated or certain ceramic bearings.
So anyone claiming to have 'German' or 'Germany' bearings fitted to any tools is just kidding you (and probably themselves).
In typical Chinese 'opportunities' style, the SKF and FAG etc factories in China also sell out of the back door when their European masters aren't looking and get rid of all the bearings which failed quality control. The records then show 'disposed as scrap' and nobody is any the wiser. All the way from the CEO down to the storeman gets a nice bonus that doesn't show on the balance sheets. Nobody in China considers that 'theft' as we would, since these bearings would have been scrapped anyway. As mentioned we call it 'fraud' they call it 'opportunity'....
Sadly we (the eBay quality machine and tool buyers) end up with second grade bearings etc and are annoyed.
In real industry, say the German car manufacturers, the purchasing officer won't touch anything without trace-to-source documentation, all the way to smelter and the metalurgy lab report of the steel the bearings were made from. You see, China DOES make very high class precision equipment and tools - but THOSE are not sold on eBay. Just like their European and US competitors' stuff.
You get what you pay for.....Cheers,
Joe

Just to clarify things a little more, The Chinese are quite justified in calling their bearings German.
They opened a factory called "German Bearing Manufacturers".Bob Willson
