rotary axis
Hi there, I have built a rotary axis for my lathe, and I have no idea how to calibrate it, can anyone out there help me out with ideas, instructions or even some clues, all will
be greatly appreciated. I use UCCNC software, asked the same question on the UCCNC Forum but NO results.
Regards
Nick

You could have a look at this page: Avid CNC Rotary Axis - the two installation and calibration guides may give you some ideas. They're mach4/avidCNC specific, but you may be able to do something similar with your setup.
Basically uses the auto touch-off plate positioned on the tailstock to calibrate alignment; and a touch-off routine on a chuck locating pin.

Thanks Bernmc, I had a look at the you tube but it's not what I am after, I have already calibrated the x and z axis, what I am after is the actual rotation part, how many steps needed to make 0ne full rotation of the Y axis, I have a 3 to one reduction pulley set up.
Cheers

Sounds like you want to know the number of steps a stepper motor has to make to turn the rotary axis.

Re-reading the post. Stepper motors normally turn 1.8 degrees per step. 3:1 reduction means 0.6 degrees per step on your A axis. Note this is not Y. Rotation axis should not be X,Y or Z.
At this rate you need 600 steps. Ie: 360 / 0.6 = 600.
