smoothing out font cuts
Hi guys
Probably a simple remedy for those using the V carve program.
When I cut out a text (font) it has jagged edges to it. See the photo. I can see the machine moving up and down by the motors which creates this. On parts of the letters it is smooth, so its not the bit or timber moving etc.
Any idea on how to smooth it out?

As you have observed it is the rigidity of the machine which is causing it.
Couple of things come to mind.
First slow down the feed rate - the speed it travels and not the speed of the router.
If this produces burning then you will have to take multiple cuts - the plunge rate needs to be lowered..
Both of these setting are accessible in Vcarvepro from the tool database - the area where you select the tool and then go to edit and adjust those settings. You will need to re-calculate your toolpaths to change your Gcode.
Mach3 can slow down the feed rate by using the feed rate override feature on the "Program Run" screen so you might like to try that first..
You can cut the same job multiple times so if you have not demounted the job nor changed the X,Y or Z setting on your machine run the job again. A second run will improve what you have there.Cheers,
Rod
