Speeds and Feeds for cutting corian
Hi,
Can someone help me with speeds and feed for cutting corian with a Chinese high speed spindle?
I'm using a 3mm and 4mm carbide cutter.
I have done some nice work cutting corian on my Taig mill. I guess the spindle speed was about 3000rpm and the feeds were arond 350 mm/min.
The high speed spindle's slowest speed on my router is about 6000 rpm. What sort of feeds should I be using?
Cheers,
Peter.

Using such a small diam carbide cutter they are prone to breaking - easy.
Try a shallow depth of cut (say 1mm) that way not so much swarf is floating around to remelt. Vacuum or blow away the swarf from the cutter and the track you have cut. I would start at 1500mm/mm and work upwards from there. Gut feeling is 2 to 2.5m/min might be the target speed but work up to it so you prevent tool breakage.
Spindle speed I would set on 50%. As they are small cutters you will need to have some speed on the spindle.
These are setup suggestions and be prepared to play with feed and spindle speed on the run to get the best cut.
If you have problems with remelt reduce the dept of cut and increase the feed rate. If you are not worried about moisture a light spray with soapy water can help.Cheers,
Rod
