the smaller stepcraft units have been high on my consideration list for a few years, the M1000 was closer to what I wanted but well above my budget at about $12k, particularly once optioned up with aluminium bed, hiwin rails etc…thou was also concerned with the fact it only weighs 30kg or so…
recently bought into a kickstarter project for a cnc out of germany, with all the high end gear from the optioned up stepcraft and larger 1000x1000 bed for about half the cost…got a decent discount…!!! gotta wait til april n always a risk with these things, particularly with a machine without an australian base/distributor. thou, this is exactly how stepcraft started n you can now buy them here with local support. see how I go, look up cnc-one if you're keen…they have it available on indigogo atm but discount isn't as enticing now…I chose the black edition which also has lubrication system and closed loop servo motors, 1400w spindle that can handle timber & acrylic which I'll be using, but also soft metals. it weighs closer to 90-100kg, still not a heavyweight like an axiom with a lot of steel structure, but uses some heavy aluminium sections and 20mm plate...

I have a vague memory that Lars Christensen of Fusion360 youtube teaching fame has one of these. May be worth looking through his channel for CNC/manufacturing talk - he might have it in action somewhere. Lars Christensen on youtoob
