Hi there,
What stepper motors would be necessary to use on a CNC router to rout wood and aluminum.

Ballscrews?, Leadscrews?, Rack and Pinions or Belts and Pulleys?
Travel lengths?
There are quite a few variables to determine the best type of motors.

Chris

For a good all round package the Gecko 540 driver and 387oz in motors are the go.

Hi,
I have a nice package for sale based on the G540.
G540 Stepper Controller Package [CC-01] - US$386.00 : Homann Designs, The Preferred CNC Component supplier
If you are using size 23 motors, the G540 is probably the best value for money stepper driver you will find.
Cheers,
Peter.

Oh dear here I go trying to figure out this electrickery again.
It is to do with the impedance of the motors and the best match for the Gecko 540 is the 387 oz inch motor. You can run larger or smaller motors on this drive but larger motors will not deliver their full performance and smaller motors will be under rated for the driver board.
The 387 oz/in is good for a medium size gantry router say 1000 by 600 which is about the most popular size made.
If you ran a larger size motor on the Gecko it would not spin as fast as the 387 but it would have more lower speed torque.
I'll stop there as it gets confusing especially if I keep trying to explain.Cheers,
Rod

Hi,
The G540 will only drive up to 3.5A/ph, which is what the 387 oz/in are rated at.
Using a motor larger than is needed, gains you nothing.
Cheers,
Peter.
