The stuff in the middle of a bearing
Hi Does anybody know where I can get a length of the plastic tubing that is supplied with the bearings for ball screws? I had a piece that I was going to use, but I had to destroy it to get it off the shaft after transferring the bearing from it. The actual size is about 14.6 ID * 17.6 OD with a wall thickness of 1.5 mm. I want to rebuild the bearings, but I need the tubing to hold the bearings in place.

What sort of length ? I could 3d print that easily enough, won't be perfect as I need to address some mechanical issues on the machine but apart from some tiny print lines it should work for what you need.
Cheers.

Hi Master Splinter It may well have done, but it isn't the right size.
Hi Russell I was after about 3 lots of it each 50mm or 60mm long. Perfection is rarely achievable, so I mostly go for a that'll do.
I hadn't even thought about someone printing this stuff. May I suggest that you start a small business offering specialy made tubing for modest prices.
I'm not in any particular rush for it, because I have just fitted a spare to the CNC (and then destroyed the tubing). I would be happy to pay for this.Bob Willson

Funny you say that - I was thinking the exact same thing when I woke up this morning !!!
Are those dimensions critical ? What if the wall thickness was 1.6mm thick, or 1.2mm thick, only reason I ask is that my printer has a 0.4 mm nozzle it might be better with multiples of that, don't know how well the slicer software works with this type of application, one way to find out !
Cheers.

I should get time over the weekend, and looks like T.C Nathan is heading to the north of us so I should have power over the weekend. Having said that I reckon the printer would run on generator without issue, the coffee machine does quite nicely, tested that in the last cyclone, lol.

I'd forgotten all about Nathan. I hope that you are OK where you are. Remember, stay out of the sea. It gets a tad wavy during cyclones.
The ID could be a mite bigger and maybe even the OD as well. The fit on the tubing was a little sloppy, but it was very tight on the shaft, which is why I ruined the last one.Bob Willson

Cyclone is miles north of us, well about 400 k's to be more exact so we will get a bit of rain at best, boats broken at the moment so I don't mind if the sea is a bit messy
So if I was to make the inside dia 14.6 and the outside 17.8 would that be OK ?
Or would it be better 14.5 inside and 17.7 out ?
Also any use adding an endstop of any sort ? It would be simple enough to build something like that into it if you think it would be of any use.
Cheers.

Glad to hear that you are in little danger.
14.6 ID and 17.8 OD would be best.Bob Willson

Just to show you I am not slacking off...here is a screenshot of your "specially made tube for a modest price"
G-code is done, edited out weird m codes that my machine doesn't understand so it is ready to print, if I wasn't starting work so early tomorrow I would fire it up now, Saturday it is !
Cheers.

So, at 50mm per second. It should all be done in about 3 seconds? Or did I accidentally misunderstand what 3mm a second means?

Ha ha I wish it was that fast, I also haven't set much on the constant velocity side of things (using linuxcnc with beglebone and xylotex card) so my print time is quite a bit slower than the software thinks it will be, oh well no matter, so long as it doesn't catch fire there isn't much to do while it is printing.
