Test Cut
I've done a test cut for some 30 ish Coasters I'm making for our wedding later this year. Has sanding sealer on it for now.
This the 3rd attempt.Cutting depth is only 0.5 mm cut it seems deep enough.
Will use Technical Pens to ink some letters black and see how that looks. Not *too* keen to do that as its a lot more work.
Thought about putting contact on the wood before routing so I can just spray the lettering....Not sure it would work with such small lettering? About 15 mm.
Once done will add 2 coats of satin varnish and make a decision then.

Try giving the job a heavy coat of nitro cellulose sanding sealer after routing and then just fill the cut with a very heavy layer of black enamel. Wipe off any excess that finishes on the top layer with a soft edged scrapper such as a plastic card. Let it dry hard and give the whole lot a sanding to remove any smears.
I used this technique years ago when engraving signs by pantograph. You can also try cleaning the smears with NC thinners soaked cotton wrapped around a piece of wood and then give the whole job a cut with about 220 grit.
