E Stop Question
Hi All
Found this site via Mark (mhasting) from over on CNCZone.
What a great site you have here, hope you don't mind a "pom" from popping in .
Just a quick question regarding the 2.2kW VFD e-stop, has anyone implemented the e-stop command on one of the user inputs or do you just simply cut the 230V supply to the VFD.
If none of the above how have you connected your e-stop circuit?

Hi Mark,
Welcome aboard. Poms are prolific over here, one more isn't going to sink the continent.
From memory, no one has posted about E-stop usage. That doesn't mean it hasn't been done as yet
Edit: I expect the safest way to use E-stop on these units would be an external relay on the 240Vac input, connected via Mach3 or the E-stop button on the machine?

First off welcome to the dark side Andy... I'm Mark BTW Mike. Everyone confused? Good
I played with using the inputs in to stop the motor but can't remember if it worked or not (havent played with it in awhile).
To answer Mike, No, the safest way is not by removing the 220 as then the spindle will just coasts to a stop rather than rapidly decelerating like when you initiate a stop command.
And having a the ability to use a braking resistor (something this unit can't at the moment) is even better as you can really pull it up fast.
So for me an estop is something that will stop all movement in the fastest and safest way (note: to the operator not necessarily the machine) where as the mains switch is there to remove complete power.

Welcome aboard Andy. Yes this is a great forum with lots of very helpful people. This is my first venture into CNC and the amount of help I have received and continue to receive is just amazing. Don't worry about being a Pom, because apart from cricket we really like the Poms. In fact a lot of our forebears were given free shipping to these shores from the UK a couple of hundred years ago, usually for nicking a loaf of bread or something!!
Can't help with the E-Stop, but am about to embark on my wiring so will follow the suggestions with great interest.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
I will do a little more digging around and playing with the various inputs, I will see if I can find what other people do e-stop wise with the VFD. I was sure that removing the 220v supply voltage was not the way to go,so thanks Mark for verifying that point,I will report back with my findings.

Important Note
Guys,
I was using the HF spindle tonight and was noticing that my Smooth Stepper was dropping connection when i went to start a job.
long story short, I had moved the HF unit power to the same rail which ran the power supply for the SS and CNC machine.
It looks like the back EMF was causing SS to drop. I moved the HF power to the other plug which is supplying the CNC machine and it stabilised.
Question: Is anyone else having an issue with the reverse and output LED's displaying strange items. I think my controller is on it's way out

Maybe it was a little premature to rat out on the SS.
I went over the earthing strategy with our EMI compliance engineer at work and he gave me a number of things to do. (He wasn't all that impressed with the Chinese VFD) I'm sure i'll get a heap of resistance from you guys for this, but he told me earth the motor & spindle cables braid/shield at the motor end. He says the effect of ground loop is insignificant when compared to the shield acting as a large antenna. Without any disrespect to you guys i'm going with him on this. (He is a well experience EMC/EMI engineer who has all the right equipment to measure this stuff)
In addition to that, he told me to add an EMI filter on the power input to the VFD and a toroidal ferrite on the motor output as pictured below.

The IEC cable filter was the only one i could get off the shelf at my local electronics store. I will change this to a normal spade terminal one and neaten the wiring.
But this has fixed my SS problem and i no longer lose comms with it!! It was so much fun driving the table around with the spindle going. I need to finish my water circuit for the spindle but should be cutting in the next couple of days when i get a chance!

Have you looked at the G540 output to control the VFD yet?
I just saw the fact that you can hook it up, but need to get the Mach3 and connections right.
Thought you could enlighten me and save me a lot of time

HI Mike I started then walked away even with someone elses help I had no luck I will probably re look at it during the next school holidays it can be done I m sure but just ran out of time and didnt want to break it so I unhooked all the wiring for the time being .

Just couldnt get mach to talk to it I have no idea why tried many differnt things but no go not sure if I was missing some setting that needed to be turned on with the VFD maybe unsure.
Tried a few things but it didnt work and lost interest.
One of the guys said I should have a chat to Peter Honman at http://www.homanndesigns.com but I havent purchased anything from him yet I have a shopping list but I dont feel right asking peter for advice when I havent purchased anything from him yet.
So thats about it for the time being.

Hi All
Sorry for the delay in getting back here.
I did a little digging as to what other VFD users were doing regarding e stopping the spindle, but did not really come up with any definite answers.
So after getting my machine up and running I found that once the e stop was pressed the relay that I had controlling the spindle dropped out and the spindle came to a stop very quickly.
I use the CNC4PC C11T bob which has the relay built in and works perfectly.

Quick update guys. A Huanyang plugin is very close to release. Its in testing right now and works. A very smart bloke down in Adelaide has written it and I'm helping him to test to weed out any bugs.
Features include current readback so this is a far superior way of interfacing the VFD into Mach.

Hi everyone, I purchased Huanyang HY02D223B and matching water cooled spindle. I have problem with the unit. It does not display any sorts of errors but the speed seems to be too low. When I use it with solid carbide endmill to cut some wood then the bit burns and leaves burnt marks on the wood as well. I suspect speed to be too slow. I tried setting different PDs but no change. I have PD144 for 3000, PD300 for 50, PD400 for 400 and PD500 for 400. I also have PD01 and PD02 set for operator mode, using front pannel of VFD to change parameters. I also have Amps and 220v set correctly. Can you please help me sort this problem. I have read all the posts in this forum applied all I could and still no change. I even found this parameter data sheet and changed all the settings according to it.

Hi Martin
Thats my sheet and it works for me. If you are stuck at a lower frequency the first place I would look is PD072 but you said you changed all parameters as per sheet. I should have said it on the spreed sheet like I did in the original post that this is provided as is, and one needs to understand all the parameters before blindly punching them in. (Not refering to you but to anyone that picks this parameter list up and doesn't read the original post)
Just reread your post and I think I know what your problem is.
PD003 (not pd300) is your set speed so at 50 which is 1/8 of 400 (max) you will be going at 3000rpm change pd003 to 400 and you will have max speed of 24000rpm
