No I meant the EMI filter that you have mounted in the jiffy box.

Interestingly the other night Nigel was machining some stuff on the lathe and Paul and i were playing with my CNC machine. Without the spindle running, the smooth stepper kept dropping out. We finally deduced the lathe was killing the SS with EMF too. You just can't win.

    Hi Mike

To date never had to install a toroidal like what you have done....Have you tried testing without it ??

    Hi Mike,
Have you ground the computer to your machine yet? I was getting interferance from a fluro before I did this.

    Greg,
I use one of these on my Spindle but it might be a bit light at 6 amps for your spindle. I am only running a 800watt unit.
    Here
    Cheers,

Hi Frank, no but I figure they should help prevent the back EMF travelling back into the unit. So given they were free I just used them. They are out of the way (kind of)

    Hi Mike,
I had heaps of trouble with the smoothstepper dropping out - it doesn't drop out nicely at all and causes all sorts of setup issues if it does so many utterings of obscenity when it did.
Greg suggested the grounding and it worked a treat. Just attach an earth anywhere on the metal case of the computer and take it back to your machine. It is easy to rig up and worth the effort.
    Cheers,

Thanks for the heads up on that Michael.
I had rung around before and drawn a blank.

Thanks Rod, I will make the change tonight

Also, has anyone had any issues with the Auto zero system on their HF spindle.
I have heard that some people have blown pins on their breakout boards when they used a HF spindle instead of the original normal router.

What do you mean Mike? What sort of problems? The two seem unrelated to me.

The spindle is not running when using auto tool zero. Auto tool zero is not used when spindle is running.

At least that is the way that sounds safest to me.

    Greg,
Oh, do you do that with the spindle turned off - there is nothing in your instructions that says not to do it with the spindle on.

I agree with Greg here as the spindle is only used as a ground so unless there is some high voltage leaking to earth on the spindle which there should not be if the spindle is turned off it should not cause the problem. Opto-isolation of the input pin is the cure for what ever reason this is happening.
    Cheers,
    Rod

Maybe there is something in this.

Do the VFDs leak a little voltage like a Solid State Relay does?

As Rod says that should not get to earth anyway.

i suspect they must have used it with the spindle "on", but on being, the VFD was switched on and the unit not running.

Not sure of the situation exactly so i can't clarify the problem

Hi All, here is another translated version of the P Codes table from the manual. This one was done by a Chinese guy at work but he admitted he didn't understand a lot of the technical stuff.

Using both versions together may provide a clearer idea on the settings.
