Default VSD/VFD forward reverse remote switching

All the diagrams I have seen show a single switch for each reverse and forward.

Can someone tell me if they are to be mechanically interlocked so that both rotations cant be selected simultaneously, or are the switch's momentary types.

    Eskimo,

The VFD is either controlled by the VFD controller panel which will only select fwd or reverse. No mechanical protection required.

When the VFD is controlled by Mach3 or equivalent, then the PWM or Step/Dir board will control the direction. Once again no mechanical protection required.

I hope this explains what you want as the question is fragmented/unclear

I thought that remote switching can be included as per the attached wiring diagram.

    I refer to terminals 1-5.

    All vsd have these inputs.

I wanted to install the vsd out of the way so to speak and not use the buttons on the front panel to ensure it stays clean etc etc. This way I can select forward or reverse as required. I am not intending to use for cnc but just for speed control on a mill and though you CNC guys might know better than I.

The input on the VFD go through a microprocessor that deals with the inputs. If both forward and rev are selected, then the microprocessor will deal with the error. Maybe ignoring the inputs, maybe turning off the spindle, etc. I'm not sure as I haven't tried it.

IIf you want to control it with a manual switch then get a single pole double throw with a centre off position (ON/OFF/ON) .

The common gets connected to ground, and the two terminals are connected to the FWD and REV input.

Let me know if this isn't clear.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

yes...thats what I thought of doing anyway...just couldnt figure out if the VSD could handle it the way the diagrams show.....I will just use my current switch which has CW - OFF - CCW....mmmm or do i want FOR OFF REV?...to many decisions...
