Are you still happy with the handle an year later?

Yep, I'm still very happy with the replacement handle but it looks to be a moot point if it's no longer available.

Looks like Aldi are selling this cheap copy on the 28th Nov under the Ferrex brand for $169.

    https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-28-november/saturday-detail-wk48/ps/p/digital-drill-press-710w/

Although to keep the price down they have changed the chuck and eliminated the 2 speed gearbox and depth measurement. Also I think the Scheppach unit sold in the UK is 900w whereas this Ferrex unit is 710w (like the Bosch). It might be worth keeping an eye out to see if Amazon AU drops the price of the Bosch unit in response.

The Aldi drill isn't a rebranded Bosch. There are features missing. I think I read that as usual it's a Sheppach. The model is Scheppach Drill Press DP60.
The Bosch PBD 40 meanwhile is down to $279 on the Black Friday sale now.

The Aldi UK Scheppach drill press has a different spec to the Aldi AU Ferrex drill press. 900w vs 710w. Two speed gearbox vs single speed gearbox. Digital depth sensor vs no sensor. Keyless chuck vs keyed chuck.

Im an Aldi shopper,so saw the advance notice of the Ferrex drill press.I have the Bosch already. i lined up with my mate at Aldi this morning,as he was going to try the Ferrex, joined the 20 or so door crashers at 8.30, however no ferrex drill press in stock, told my mate about the black friday sale on amazon, he has purchased one at the great sale price, i think he is much better off.I also purchased on Amazon , even cheaper a year ago, thanks everyone for spreading the word,Rossco

    Default Changing the chuck

I just changed the chuck on my PBD40. It’s the same brand (Röhm) but a higher spec’ed version. I doesn’t have the annoying lock ring, just a twist lock mechanism. I got it after watching this YouTube video on changing it. The new chuck has 1/3 the amount of run out as the original, which is only supposed to be fitted to hand drills. Not pedestal drills. I waited a few months to buy it on Amazon till the price dropped from its usual ~$170 down to $118. It’s probably more applicable to metal workers but I couldn’t help myself.
The wobble in the spindle that Chris Parks mentioned is still there but its never caused a problem with what I’m working on.

I'd do this mod if I wasn't just about to upgrade. Cheers.

No worries micmcg. We gotta share the good stuff when we come across it.

Mike. What are you upgrading to? A Nova Viking or Voyager?

Probably just the Viking unless I win the lottery. I don't need the extra hp of the Voyager or it's "bells & whistles".
