Let there be Light: Workshop Lighting

Let there be light!, In the workshop anyway.

Like alot of amateur woodworkers my car sits on my drive in disgust as my garage is used solely as my workshop. Its only a single car garage measuring approx 23x13ft but its served me well so far, however the lighting is a single florescent light that isn't that great. When I'm measuring or doing some sort of precision work, I normally have to use a torch or iphone to illuminate the area, its become quite a paint in the buttocks.

This brings me onto my small review.. While browsing Amazon I spotted this for $30:

I thought what the hell why not give it a go. I wasn't expecting a great deal when it arrived the next day in what I can only describe as a shoe box!. Anyway I opened the box, chucked the instructions to one side and expanded the 8 leaf lighting arms. Still, it didn't look that impressive in size so I took the little light into the workshop and plugged it in and turned it on.

Bloody hell!, I couldn't look at the thing it was that bright!, It illuminated the entire room and was more than enough for my needs. According to the description it has '192 LED chip adoption lights which totals 150W of power so 15000 Lumens, which is twice as bright as other LED garage light with CRI80+, 6500K daylight, whatever that means. All I know is this was well worth the money.

I also made a bracket so the light can slide back and forth on my electric garage door rail.

I bought one of these and have just installed it - bloody hell, its fantastic. BUT, once its switch it on, my FM radio goes to with a loud buzzing interference. I'd welcome any ideas from the brains trust on whether this can be fixed. Thanks

Try moving the radio further away. LED is light emitting diode so I imagine that apart from nice white light it also radiates other parts of the spectrum. I have noticed with FM going in the car it gets to hissing anytime I get near railway lines. My guess its from the overhead power lines emitting radiation.
I have also been looking at getting one and see there are all sorts of them on Ebay.

I've got no radio in the workshop, I use my iPhone to play the music.

I wonder how they shield it within a TV?.

A single flourescent tube 1500mm long emits around 5,000 lumens so the new light is 3 times as bright
