A bit hard to tell, but at a pinch I would have thought that the dresser (chest ?) might be from around the 30s or so. Definitely the other furniture shown in the link looks like it is mostly from the 20s-30s.

As to the best finish, for my money, you can't go past a proper shellac and wax finish. However, there are alternatives, ie. oils etc. The one thing though with old furniture though is to stay away from modern polyeurthane coats, since these look totally wrong IMO.

If you are concerned about damage to a shellac finish you could always try using Hard Shellac, as it is more durable apparently than normal orange shellac.

Default thank you resposne re Kauir Pine dresser

Many thansk for the feedback on this query - my drawers look ideintical to those linked by Hap97, which do look great with the curved handles.
have finished them with ccouple of coats of beeswax/orange oil and then finished with canubra wax as a hard smooth finish to try and avoid potential for mold to grow in the humid conditions we are subject to here in Cairns- seems to be a problem with some finish type, or even plain mdf if left in still breeze free areas of the house!
again many thanks to Hap97 and Horsecroft88, A
