    Default BlackWood Dresser Resto Steps

    First Timer

Have BlackWood dresser going to restore and have a couple other jobs that plan to do after completion of that. Will post pics next week when pick it up and of course finish pics which hope to be good.

Want to have understanding of the steps that I have to do which I will note from my searching on site.

    1. Clean using metho or or polishing revivor using rag then rub down with 0000 steel wool.
    2. coat using shellac/metho mix or a oil mix of linseed 1 part and turps 2 part
2.3 sand with grain but not through shellac using 400 grit
    3. Wax for final finish.

Please let me know if anything wrong in my understanding.

Step 2 some people have mentioned a poly product to add for durability, if correct what is mix I can use and does sponsor have product that has the three components.

Any general do's and dont's or advise would be greatly appreciated, these are doing for myself so wont to finish well and long lasting.

Also maintenance tips what to do to keep in tip top shape regular wax or just polish.

    cheers.

If the finish on the dresser is basically OK, but scratched, powdery and looking old then I use this Howard Product, Restore -a-Finish. Link
    http://www.howardproducts.com.au/pro...r-a-finish.htm
Then use the Feed-n-Wax for a polish.

If the finish needs to be removed, then that is another topic.
