Default Side board mirror top recovery

    Hi,
I'm starting the cleaning of this unit top reseal and use again. I'm looking for advice on cleaning the pressed metal ready for sealing again. Also would appreciate any information on what the symbols on it mean.

    Thanks for the help.

Is the pressed metal steel or brass?

That's a good question because I thought I just saw some copper but I definitely see specks of rust. Can you get copper plated steel sheet from then?

The symbols just mean its Art Nouveau styleing

Yeah Ive seen thin copper over steel . It rubs off easy . If its rusted through I'm pretty sure you can only try and see how good you can make it look.

Progressing with gentle dismantling and cleaning. Even found the mirror makers mark.

Slow but there is progress. I have taken scrap pine and been cutting down very thin strips to secure the panels and mirror.

Cleaned first by scraping and then some sanding. Sealing with Danish oil. Panels going back in ready to have cover at back installed. While the mirror is in this is where it will stop while I work on how to handle the loss of some silver. I never meant this as a master piece so don't think I can justify a lot of money on a new silvering. I will also need to decide what to put on the bottom and how to hang in a bathroom.
