Thread: Filing Cabinet, Antique? what kind of wood?

I was driving past a house that was putting out hard rubbish and noticed this huge wooden filing cabinet (skinny long drawers so could be medical) and although I wouldn't usually do this It was love at first sight so I asked if I could have it (very friendly guy even helped me load it into my car hehe but he couldn't tell me much about it other than he'd had it for about 20 years).

IMO it needs a bit of work like sanding, re-varnishing, replacing warped ply back and unfortunately I'm guessing they are not the original handles because there are several screw holes that need to be filled in. I'm going to attempt all this myself but I am busting to know how old and what kind of wood it is, I tried looking at some websites to identify the wood but I don't have a hope in hell.

I think the outside might be a different wood to the inside, I'm confident enough to say none of it is pine (I think hehe), and omg it is the bloody heavy as hell!

Any ideas? Or does anyone know anywhere in melbourne that could identify it (happy to pay a reasonably fee of course).
