    Default Parker Chair Loose Seat

    Hi Folks

I've got some nice old Parker chairs, the type with curve back and curved seat.

Some of the curved seat parts are loose, because the beautiful old long steel screws have pulled out of the plywood seat bottom, and because the design allows a lot of leverage on the seat edges.

I'd like to fix them, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Someone suggested Araldite in the holes then screw into the wet glue. Another suggestion was to make some timber plugs and install them to screw into, but they may be a little beyond my skill set!

    Any advice is most appreciated!

    thanks, Toby

Fill the holes with Plastibond, spray the screws with Pure and Simple cooking oil, reinsert screw while the plastibond is still wet, clean up any excess Plastibond from surrounding surfaces, allow to dry. The Pure and Simple acts as a release agent between the screw and the Plasibond, allowing the screws to be removed and inserted as per normal once the Plastibond has set.

Excellent. That sounds like a plan. Thanks.
