    Default Polish Chinese Rosewood furniture.

    Good evening all,

I have a set of Chinese Rosewood furniture made in the early 1960s (dining table, chairs, room divider, buffet, coffee table and lamp tables).

I remember my mother oiling/polishing them when I was a kid, but what with I cannot recall. Maybe Mr. Sheen, maybe red oil or orange oil?

If anybody has any experience with this type of Chinese furniture and could offer any advise on cleaning and polishing/oiling it I would be grateful.

    Ta,

    Grant.

Fletty would probably be the best person to answer this as he has a collection of Chinese furniture and is very knowledgeable in that area. I believe he is on extended leave at the moment so I’m not sure if he is reading these posts. Maybe a PM?

I cant offer much help other than say take Mr Sheen off the list. It should not be used on any good furniture.

Marveer seemed to be the housewife's upkeep polish of choice from my memories of the 60's. I don't think it comes in the little bottles anymore but it was a mixture of carnuba and beeswax in solution of some sort and didn't need as much elbow grease to apply as a hard wax. There is probably something in the U-BEAUT range that does the job these days. I recently used some O'cedar on a chair back repair that seemed to work quite well but didn't buff up to a high gloss easily.

If you want an easy spray/wipe product, try Mirotone Spray Glow.
