    Question removing a lanolin finish

    hi I am restoring a rimu wainscot which has a lanolin finish on it. I need to strip this off to be able to sand down and refinish. does anyone know an easy way to do this??

    Just guessing but I'd try washing it down with sugarsoap once or twice and see it takes a finish.

    Thumbs up You could try....

    Lanolin is naturally very oily, so to get the new finish? to take, requires the removal of the oil.
    The suggested sugar soap might work (basically dilute caustic soda) however you might also try acetone and or white spirits.
    Please use all PPE when doing this,however this should remove all traces of the Lanolin, and give you a clean sound base on which to build your desired finish.
