Hi Handyjack,
Glad to hear from you and thanks for your comments. I have just sent a reply to Trevor about the rivets and yes, I think they will look better painted. If not, I will make a new stack and will modify existing rivets to get smaller rivet heads or follow Trevor's suggestion. I have used about 90 rivets. I bought 300, so I have quite a few to play around with. I think you may be correct about the dish in the boiler. I am sure they used straight through axles. Mine only just hit the boiler, but I was not in a situation to add a dish to the base of the boiler. I am really happy how my stub axes have come up though. Again thanks for your comments and look forward to hearing from you again.
Regards
Keith

Couldn't resist. Just went out in shed and painted some of the stack. Looks good. The rivets make the stack look pretty realistic. Happy now !!

Call it an early day today. Painted the stack. Rivets look OK I think. Turned up the top piece of chimney and fitted that. The difficult part was connecting the steam exhaust line to the stack. Fair bit of finicky work to get the correct angles. Trevor's idea about the wire inside the copper tube worked a treat. Happy with today's outcome. I now have to make up a few Engineering drawings for my front end components and the crank bearings.
Regards
Keith.

That looks so realistic it is set to humble many other models!! Just a wonderful build!!
Beautifully documented! Thanks for taking the time and putting in the effort to do this.

Been away from the computer for a week. Come back and got my computer fired up to see what has been happening with your built. Holy Cow! You have accomplished a lot and it is looking more real all the time. Awesome job!

Thanks to everyone who has made such nice comments about my project - I really appreciate it. As I have said previously, I am loving building this locomotive. The further you look into the history - you wonder whether Richard Trevithick received the accolades he deserves (in my opinion).
Today I have been out to my old workplace and catching up with "Treecycle" and other mates. We were discussing the best way to "weather" timber. I am looking at "weathering" for part of my tender, rolling stock (coal cart) and the sleepers. I was thinking about scorching pine with a blowtorch and then hitting it with a wire brush and then using a thinned down paint. "Treecycle" has heard about rubbing with vinegar on a harder timber. Has anybody any other ideas or suggestions please.
When got home drew up the main piston support bracket. There is a left and right hand. I am laminating the pine and then I will cut as per plan using my bandsaw. The bracket sits in the groove just in front of the boiler. The brackets will be retained by hexagon head bolts.
Have a good day

Hi,
You have just given me a bad thought, mentioning hex bolts, I have been admiring them throughout the project without wondering if they would not have been square in those days.

Hi,
I don't know what to say !! I have had a look at you-tube on replica Peny-Darren at Blists Hill. Yes the boiler bolts are square in this replica - although it appears as though there are hexagon head bolts on other parts of the replica.
A bit devastated actually. What do others think - should I pull apart and start again ??????? Not in scale modelling section though. Not that it makes me feel any better.
