    Thanks Peter,

    Peny-Darren continues as is.

There are a few things I have added anyway. The prototype didn't appear to have pillow block bearings - probably would have been a white metal conglomerate. I made the main gear on the drive shaft solid as I think the stresses could have impacted on the integrity of the casting. I went with stub axles instead of single axles. And really - who cares !!!

I reckon you are spot on. Your comments above are great and I really appreciate it. No competition - just out in the shed designing, manufacturing and trying to enhance your skills and doing the best job you can with what you have.

    THANKS CROWIE

    Again - really appreciate it.

Hi Keith, if you point out what you think is wrong we will all know, and we don't really need to know, don't think you need to change the bolts to square it's your model and you are not claiming that it is a true to scale in every detail ,you have done a fantastic job and a very interesting project well done.

    Hi All,

Back into it after a couple of days break. Cut out the left and right hand support brackets from the pine I laminated the other day. Used the band saw to cut out the shape ad then a fair bit of filing and sand paper. Had to file the ends of the brackets to suit the curvature of the boiler. Made up a couple of support jigs to hold the brackets level whilst I secured it behind the boiler front plate. I have taken photos with the support shafts and end bracket in place, just to show what it looks like. Can't secure until I make up the main piston crank shaft carriage. I think it is now starting to look a bit like the Peny-Darren.

    Regards

    Keith

With the bolt situation if the original had square head bolt and with a big AND you are making 100% scale model then it would be something to worry about but as it is this is what I would call semi scale in as much if it looks right then that is also OK.

In the model boat circles when a model is judged it can be entered in the scale or semi scale category if you enter in the first then it has to be 100% correct

To me it looks right. and I would personally not worry about it as your build is looking absolutely superb. And to quote Peter "It is not a competition"

The majority of today was spent on the lathe machining up my crank shaft bearings. These are made out of aluminium. The worst part was hacksawing the blank to the correct length. It is hard work hacksawing 40mm solid aluminium X 4 times.
I used my crank as a guide for the correct shaft diameter (it is 12mm). I then made up a gauge out of wood to check my bearing diameter. Photo shows the 4 bearings. There is a lot of swarf cut wen making these bearings. Cathie keeps complaining about the metal shavings that some how appear in the house. Photo shows the bearing location on the gear crank and the flywheel. I have also started to work on the main piston carriage.

    Regards

    Keith.

The amount of time, effort and detail you're putting into this is really showing.
The build is as on track as a model of a train can be
    Wonderful work Keith.

    Thanks Trevor,

I really appreciate you comments. I received the plastic model kit of Stephenson's Rocket from the UK- it is very small, but I will be able to draw and scale up the components to another 1/5th scale build (I think the rocket may be a bit more difficult though). My long term aim is to build a history of model steam locos - 1804 (current build) - 1836 (Stephenson's Rocket), 1900s Tank Engine, an then one of the last -1950s locos. Big problem is where to display them. This is probably a 2 year + action plan. Hope Cathie agrees.

Again thanks for your comments - you are a master builder.

    Keith

    That all sounds great.
I hope you have PLANET on the short list of builds to come.
I'm looking forward to seeing the collection grow!

    Hi All,

Made and fitted the water filling point on the top of the boiler. Worked on the main drive piston carriage. At the moment it is just sitting in position. I have to turn up some automatic oilers to lubricate the side support shafts both sides of the min piston. Also need to make up some support brackets for the hand operated directional control valves. The next main task is to make the cranks from both the flywheel and the drive gear t the piston carriage. Getting there !!
