    Hi All,

I have been working on the lettering and numbering of the tender. Very time consuming. The backboard is made of MDF and the bordering is cut strip wood pine. Then sanded down by hand to get a much thinner base board than the 3mm standard MDF.
The lettering and numbering are made out of 3mm MDF. I got the letters and numbers off the internet and then used Paintshop Pro to get the sizes I wanted and then imported into Word and used the printout as my template on the MDF. Once cut out and sanded (needed to use needle files to get into the awkward bits) - I sanded the letters and numbers by hand so they are less than 1mm thick. I have done both sides of the tender. At the moment the letters and numbers are only held on by blue tack - just to let me get a photo. I now need to make up a "147" number that is on both sides of the boiler.

    Hi,

Thanks for your comments. Most appreciated. Well into the paintwork on the loco and tender. Quite time consuming.

My next locomotive has been selected and it's a bottler (pun intended)

    Regards

    Keith

I am not surprised the paintwork is time consuming after looking at the prototype.
When it was built wages were probably a few cents an hour or day, labor was cheap but decorative painting was the style. Not something you could rush. There would probably be a day or two in the lining out, depending on how fast the paint dries.

Any wonder the railways went to all over black. Quicker to apply and did not look so bad if dirty.

Keith, once you have finished this engine you might start a career in sign writing.

    Hi Ray,

Here we are - mid 20th century Great Western Railway - Pannier Tank locomotive. I have found a lot of detail on it. The inside cabin equipment is going to be a huge challenge. Much more sophisticated than anything I have attempted before.

I love the beautiful lines of this locomotive. The only downside is that it has internal pistons instead of external.
