Peter, I'm still on the winter break. The gullwing will be in retirement for a few months as I have a commission ( a toy for a big boy) which will take a couple of months or more to complete, I'll get started in about 3 weeks time. John.

    Thanks John....
Just going through the toymakers and model makers with there projects that haven't had much updates with the view to ensure all's well.
Looking forward to seeing both the "commission job" and the return to this project in a little while...cheers Peter

Well the winter hibernation is over, back on the 300 SL. Was impossible to use 4 mm dowel for the chassis, had to go back to square section 5 x 5 mm pine.
Started on the body, all made out of jelutong, see by the photos its made up in sections,a lot of sawing , chiseling, sanding ( the Ryobi power sander had a good work out) finally got it into shape.
Penciled in the openings to be cut out, once they are removed I'll be able to see the thickness, and to sand the inside of the body down to about 6 mm thick. Then make the doors , bonnet and boot lid. John.

Made some sketches of the finished size and shape I will work to. The wheels were fairly simple turning job with the slots cut with a 1/8 router bit , set up on the indexing on the lathe with a sliding router , which has been used on previous wheels. 6 1/2 hours for 5 compared with 25 hours for the MG wheels.
I intend to go to a fair bit of detail , independent suspension , the chassis of the 300 SL is a space frame of tubular steel , I hope to get it made of 4mm dowell. I don't have actual plans to work to , each part or section I work out how to make it as I go along. Some photos of work to date. John.

John this is really amazing how you did that. Gives me hope that maybe I can do that with my 32' Ford. Just not sure what tool to use to get there.
