John Alfred Prestwich (J.A.P) was an engineer.
He started out in 1895 about the age of 20 making scientific instruments in a shed behind his father's house in Tottenham, London.
A lot of his early work was also with cinematography cameras and projectors.
He started making motorcycle engines in 1902 as J.A.Prestwich and Company.
In 1911 he moved to Tariff Road, in the Northumberland Park area of Tottenham, London.
Apart from the connection with Brough Superior his engines powered many others of the early British motorcycles.
He also made aeroplane engines.
Hope that helps your mate out a little.
On that other note, when and if I get something to the point of being "Mickey Mouse" fair to say I'm pretty happy with it!.
Cheers mate
Trev.

Had a good day working on the engine and I nicked into the Museum in Launceston to get some stuff.
I went in armed with plasticine to find a logo for the Carbie.
I found a really good one on an old Triumph that was fitted out with an Amal.

The logo will go on the mixing bowls, that will fit either side of the carburettor.
In the second photo you can see it's sitting a little proud at the moment.
Tomorrow I'll mask off the lettering and spray it with filler, then blend it all in.

I've added a nice bit of detail to the carbie by making a jet block.
As you can see now it looks like if you pushed the choke down it would slide into the gap underneath.
Which I can guarantee it wont!

The other thing I've made a start on is the first of the two nuts that hold the inlet manifold in place.
It's just two bits of 3mm MDF glued together and shaped.
The only down side to the day was finding out that the seat on the Indian has been broken.
It's an easy repair so I'll pick the bike up some time next week and start getting it ready for an Art Exhibition in Hobart in a month or so.
Cheers

While your doing the head will you be doing a port and polish job on the inlet side.
Plus a three angle cut on the valves to aid airflow
Plus a KN air filter of course

Just remembered about an old movie I'd seen, they used the plasticine to get the keys pattern.....not suggesting anything here Trev other than to compliment you.... good to see your inventiveness..Cheers, Peter

Wonderful work continues to flow from Scamander. Excellent work with the plasticine.
How typical that some idiot has sat on the Indian! Bustards! (Not Dave; he almost has carte blanche when it comes to the red machine.)

We'll need to size you're backside up for the Brough Cowboy!.
I put a hole heap of time into the engine today, without feeling like I got anywhere much.
I've modified the inlet ports on both of the cylinders to get the spacing right for the manifold.
And got the two connecting nuts made.

The mixing bowl on the left of the carbie is the one from yesterday.
The Carbie pictured below on the right isn't exactly the same as the one I'm making but the basic setup is.

I think it will look pretty kool between the cylinders!.
