You maybe right Charlie it could be Christmas next year.
Although I'm thinking 4 hours sleep in 24 sounds doable that's only one less than my average.
Usually I'm asleep about 9 and awake by 2.

OK folks you heard it here first!.
Charlie say's his not starting on his beloved Stirling loco until his finished the carriage.

I'll lay you odds of 6/4 on and take that bet Charlie Boy!!!!
This is going to be like shooting fish in a barrel.

    Cheers mate

It may not look like much has changed with the tank but hours of sanding has gone into it.
I've also added a back plate which is just MDF.

    IMG_4965.jpg IMG_4971.jpg

It's great fun getting to use one of Dad's old surformer's (as much as the dear old boy hated them).
I've only got the left shoulder to finish shaping which will take a ton of time to match as close as I can to the right.

    IMG_4967.jpg IMG_4969.jpg

Once that's done I'll make the tunnel that sits over the backbone as a separate part.
Then fibreglass both parts and join them together to make one piece.

    Cheers
    Trev.

The former for the tank is pretty much done minus the tunnel which is a separate part.
It's nice to see a coat of primer on it.

    IMG_5003.jpg IMG_5005.jpg

I'll still keep working the surface for awhile yet.
But it doesn't need to be perfect as it's only a base for the fibreglass.
You can see in the first photo where I've added the recess to the bottom of the tank.

    IMG_5004.jpg IMG_5006.jpg

It's been a heck of a lot of work for something that's only going to get smashed.
But there's a lot of satisfaction in making something by hand.

I think I'd better clean the shed tomorrow before I start throwing fibreglass all over the place!.

    Cheers
    Trev.

The last few days I've been continuing to refine the surface of the tank former.
I've got a week or so until the fibreglass arrives (no one had any in stock in town).

    IMG_5457.jpg IMG_5458.jpg

To keep things moving while waiting for the fiberglass to get here I've been adding detail to the gearbox.

    IMG_5459.jpg IMG_5460.jpg IMG_5462.jpg

I cut eight slots into the housing which is a PVC 100mm end cover the discs are cut from 3mm MDF.
There's a tension adjuster that fits to the top of the gearbox I'll tackle that next.

    Cheers
    Trev.

I striped the engine out of the frame so I could make and fit the gearbox adjuster.

    IMG_5668.jpg IMG_5669.jpg

I just used a bolt some pine and MDF to make it.
Each of the four tall domed nuts that hold the gearbox to the mounting plate are made from the outside of texta's to get the height and bodyfiller.

    IMG_5670.JPG IMG_5671.jpg IMG_5666.jpg

I've also added some detail to the gearbox face and the gear lever.
I was really hoping to have the clutch lever that goes in the hole above the kick-starter done today.
But I couldn't fined any dowel to make the shaft.
I was sure I had at least a nine inch piece laying around, but damned if I could find it.

The photo below is a give away!.

    IMG_5672.jpg

I'd used it to stir the plaster when I was working on the tank.
Never mind a quick clean up and it will do the job just fine.

    Cheers
    Trev.
