I got all of the tapering done on the fins of second cylinder today.
As well as getting them glued up.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the way their going.
I'll need to add the correct piece of PVC that makes the clear section of the cylinder tomorrow.
Then blend it in with bodyfiller, hopefully I'll have it done with enough time to spare that I can put a coat of primer on it.
Then it will be time to have a look at the next part to build the crankcase.
If your wondering why I'm not building the heads next, it's because at this point I need more information about their structure.
All of fletty's photos of the bike are fantastic but with the tank in the way you can't see the detail of the heads.
I've been trying to find a picture of them online, but so far Butkis, Diderly and Squat!.
Cheers

Looking fantastic
This is going to be a beautiful build.
It will be great comparing the build of the Indian to the build of the Brough. It will be a tremendous ongoing "master class".
Looking forward with much anticipation.

"CHEECKY BUGGER"
Only if we throw it on the Barbie mate!
As you know Charlie the next thing you build is always the best you can do, as you learn from each of the previous builds.
I just hope I can do the Brough justice as the original is a beautiful object.
Cheers Guy's

I did a little more hunting around today finding out what the situation with recycling is in the area.
Short answer "Not So Good"!.
The local council have next to no recycling at all.
The rubbish collection is subcontracted out, and they just pretty much crush the lot and truck it out.
Add to that they don't except any waste from building or plumbing companies.
The reason naturally is financial, there's just no money in it for them.
Which in it's own way is fair enough.
Funny thing though the region is referred to as a remote council!.
And it's only 130 kilometres to Launceston.
I call that just up the road!.
Anyway I'm sure I'll find the things I need as I go along.
On the work front I finished off the second cylinder and got a coat of filler primer on both.
I've sanded one and I'll get to the other tomorrow.

Best I start working out how I'm going to attack the crankcase.
Tell ya what the fence palings are looking pretty sweet at the moment, I'm sure no one will notice a couple missing!.
Cheers

That'll make the build a little more difficult for you Trev without a local recycle depot.....
Though as you said Launceston is just up the road if they do it any better...
One would have thought that Tassie would be a "ecco recycling state"
The cylinders look good enough to have just come out of the foundry & then the machine shop...Cheers, Peter

I hate to say it but I'm in all sorts of trouble here!.
No two ways about it fletty got a ton of fantastic photo's of Terry's Brough.
But there's so much motor jammed in there it's almost impossible to see the detail.
When I made the barrels I was looking at a photo taken pretty much face on.
But looking through some more I found one from a higher angle and you can see that the base plate of the barrel is recessed on the corners.
It's shown arrowed in the picture below.
oops.jpg
They'll need to come off and be reshaped.
The arrow at the bottom of the shot shows a section of the crankcase that protrudes, I'd be guessing that it has something to do with the oil feed.
I can just make out in the pictures that the lower section of the crankcase to the front of the bike is not just round.
It has a larger radius than the top of the case.
There isn't a clear shot of the area in any of the photos due to all of the other parts that surround it.
I've been looking on line for months for good reference photos of the Matchless engine that is fitted to the Brough.
But with only a little more than a hundred of them having been made I can't find anything of consequence.
There appears to be no parts lists or workshop manuals relating to the engine on line.
I know I'd have to wait for more information to build the heads.
But I was really hoping I could get on with the crankcase in the meantime.
I really want to do this bike justice and guessing at what parts may look like wont do!
I'll drop fletty a PM and see if he can get onto Terry and found out if one of the folks in the Brough club has photographed the engine in parts.
I sure hope so or this build is going to be nye on impossible.
Cheers

Trev,
Sorry about the lack of info, but I reckon that you would do it justice no matter how you assemble it. Are there Patents you can look for ?
In the meantime you could cut out the bores on the cylinders and start making the pistons (Pistons not to be done in lathe!!!)

.... and some other Matchless pics which, although not necessarily apecific to Brough, show some of their standard parts which may have been used?
