I thought I'd make a start on the left side of the engine today.
I've been looking forward to building the magneto for some time.
Although it just starts out as a box with a rounded top, they usually end
up looking pretty cool.

I really like it when an engine gets to this stage.
Putting the basic shape of the magneto on it looks a little odd.
Being so obviously made of MDF.

I've made a few magneto's in the past, and the one thing I've found is that
the cover is the most important part.
At the moment it's painted in primer.
If you don't get the look of it right it just doesn't work.
At different times I've tried steaming and laminating to get the shape.
Even scoring the lines but when it's painted it always ended up looking just like that,
a piece of wood with a line scratched in it.

So now what I do is to make each part separately that way when it's painted,
their obviously two different parts.
It really makes a big difference to the finished piece.
Tomorrow I'll work on the shaft drive.
Cheers.
