Those legs are gorgeous old things. I can see why you retrieved them.

The restoration you are doing on them is incredible. It will obviously be
time consuming but the result will be well worthwhile..

    Thanks very much!
Aren't they gorgeous, though I'd still shy at calling what I'm doing restoration.
It feels more like an acceptance of the limitations of my abilities.

Their defiantly in the worst condition of anything I've worked on.
It's just a shame I can only return them to a point of having a painted surface.
They must have been truly beautiful in their day.

I put about 10 hours into just the part I worked on yesterday.
Which is a lot of work for something I have no idea what to do with.
Although my son did suggest today they would look wonderful as the front leg's
    on a folding library step.

What ever happens with them over time I'll diffidently get them done.
And I'm sure from time to time as I get more done, they'll pop up in a tread here or there!

    Cheers
    Trevor.

I was going to put "restoration" but decided not to.

With you painting skills you could do them in faux bronze
or gilt and they would look spectacular.

I'll be in that. I trust that such a definition by some such as yourself will be by way of a live show.

I'd love to here a replica of 'good music'. I think I was too busy with tea and coffee and missed that discussion.

I know I should be working on the Indian, but I'm at the point of scratching my head for a day or so.
    Working out things to proceed.
So I'll take the time to have a crack at putting the other claw back together in some way!

Just a great exercise in frustration.

If you face off where the crack is on the second claw and glue a piece of wood on that should give you a good base to start again with the missing section

I like working with cedar as it is soft and easy to work but not sure if mixing species is a good idea or not neither if it is good to use in close proximity to the ground

Mate it would be so "ROCKYHORROR!", you have no idea!
I'd have to shave my leg's, then there's the costuming and production.
    Let alone the casting!

We could do the hole thing live in front of the lake.
But best not I don't think the locals would quite get it!

I had a bit of go at replacing the ball and claw on the other leg this afternoon.
I've gotten a fair way but it's to hot at the moment, I'm hoping to do more this evening.

The one on the right is what it was like yesterday.

    IMG_1597.jpg IMG_1600.jpg

I added a piece of pine to the broken section and build it up with bodyfiller.
When I got close to the appearance of the other leg, I started carving the shape.

    IMG_1599.jpg

It all looks pretty rough at the minute, by I should get it cleaned up tonight,
Tomorrow it's back to the Indian.

    Cheers.

It looks like I'm going to have a little bit of a holdup with getting my hands on some 18" wheels.
So in the meantime I thought I'd make and oil gauge for the engine.
It was an optional part on the bike, but it's a good look so why not.

It's one of the few parts I've had any real luck with finding good pictures of.

    Gauge Oil.jpg

The gauge sat at the front of the engine on the right hand side.
I have no idea how you would see it clearly when riding.

    Gauge.jpg Bracket.jpg

I'll make the body of the gauge out of PVC and MDF (Surprise Surprise).
The bracket has a pretty tight turn in it but I think I can steam some 3mm to get it.

    Face.jpg

With the face of the gauge I'll enlarge the picture on a paint programme and clean it up.
Then print out a copy to fit the gauge.

It should keep me going till the wheels turn up.

    Cheers.
    Trevor.

Will you make the lens out of MDF ... that'll have be real impressed

ON another note, your rims ... are you thinking of using bike rims. I cant remember what the standard sizes were now. You should have had a look around my useful box ... I think I have some that are smaller than 20". Was the next size down 18 or 16?

Come on Dave we all know they've made clear MDF for years now.
It's just marketed under the name Perspex that's all!
    Your not fooling anyone mate.

And by the by do you mean to say I was more than likely sitting within yards
    of 18" rims last weekend.
If their hiding somewhere down the back of the Useful Box, and the ones I'm
after don't turn up on Monday.
Seriously Dude you'd better leave the front porch light on Tuesday night!

    Cheers Cowboy!
