With the temperature hovering around 40 degrees of late.
I've been a little lazy when it comes to spending the day at the end of an arc welder.
So I haven't got to far along with the frame.
But minus some really small screws I've finished the oil gauge.

    IMG_1621.jpg IMG_1623.jpg

As I said before I've got no idea how you would be able to see the gauge while riding.

    IMG_1631.jpg IMG_1633.jpg

It was a bit tricky painting the chrome around the Perspex (clear MDF).
But I'm pretty happy with it.

Hopefully we get some cooler days, so I can get stuck right in to the frame.
    Cheers.

    No not at all !
This is a model of a prototype oil gauge, made by the Indian Motorcycle
    Company in the early 1930's.
The area between the gauge face and the lens was filled with a liquid.
The larger white dot that you can see on the face is were a small light has to be located.
As the pressure of the engine oil builds the liquid in the gauge is placed under more pressure itself.
The added pressure changes the light refractional properties of the liquid, and the thin beam being
admitted by the light appears to move from zero to one hundred as the pressure increases.
Although a wonderful piece of engineering for the time, it was in the end found to be far to
expensive and they went back to the basic needle type arrangement.

But now that you've send that, I think I might go back to the basic setup with just a simple needle.
Well that was rubbish wasn't it!
Actually I haven't put the needle in, I'm still looking for a screw that's small enough.

    Cheers mate.

The gauge looks great addition to the engine, can't wait to see the bike build to go with the engine.

You know, that story about the operation of the liquid filled oil gauge was absolutely fascinating. I'd never heard of it before, although for some reason I have a clear picture in my mind of seeing one of these gauges in operation, it might have been on the 'Fastest Indian' movie or perhaps a memory from childhood? : dunno :doesn't matter

My point is... Little anecdotal facts like this one just make the build so much more interesting. I really hope that at some point in time you would consider the possibility of displaying your wonderful work... And please do include as many little anecdotal facts like this as you care to...

It's been said before and I'm sure it will be said again... You have a real gift in doing the work you do... Please at least consider the possibility of displaying some of your work publicly at some point, in some way?

I was in the city, CBD Brisbane, the other day and in the foyer of many city buildings they have a gallery of sorts. I could easily see one or two of your creations in a glass case taking centre stage... I'm sure you would receive a 'fee' for your art work- on lease, of course. That might allow you a little more freedom to expand your horizons...
    Just a thought....

Some circuit boards have very small screws or if not have a look at clocks and watches (preferable those that don't work) make sure the clocks and watches are old as they more than likely will have slotted screws.

Thanks guy's I'm on the hunt!
No time piece or power point is safe.
While I was making the engine the kitchen broom got shorter by six inch's.
No one's noticed yet, maybe if their all checking the time on their mobiles
they wont notice the wall clock has gone either!

    Cheers.
