Steven got me thinking about colour the other day.
So I hunted around yesterday for a red paint for the Indian.
I found one that I thought looked as if it would be nice (not that you can tell much from the colour on a lid)
The battery box seemed like a good part to test the paint on, so I gave it a couple of coats.



Compared to the real thing I'd say the colour in the pictures is about 2 shades lighter than the actual finish.
It's come up almost fire engine red.
I'm pretty happy with it.



I'll take the opportunity to finish the battery box completely, meaning I'll sand down the paint I've already got on it.
Give it two or three more coats (with a light sand in between) add the gold pin stripping and the decal of the logo.



Then clear coat the finish that way I'll know that the paint I'm using will be suitable for the complete bike.
There's nothing worse than throwing paint around only to find that it wont take a clear coat.
So I'll use the battery box to see how much of a good finish I can get before committing to the hole bike.

You must be getting a bit excited now Trev - nearly up to the final fun bit - PAINT! Looking thoroughly excellent, a grand job.

Btw, if the hat comes off that Smurf then it won't be appropriate - Dave's never comes off. Must make showering difficult though (I begin to understand why he chooses a narrow brim).

I've been sanding primer since about 2.30 this morning (or a least I think so Daylight savings I could be out by an hour either way)
I really do enjoy painting you can put in hours of work and then sit down with a cup of coffee and watch it dry!
It doesn't get much better in my book

Hi Trev,

Those new tyres make a huge difference to the bike, looks so much better now.

I know how much effort you (and others) have put into getting the wheels and tyres just right, and it has now payed off.

BTW, now that you have got the crayons out and starting to add color, i'm getting a bit excited myself.

I think it's going to just burst into life with some paint applied.

I couldn't even last a day a sticking to my own rules.
I no damn well I should wait until I've made sure the paint I'm using will hold a clear coat.
But it was a beautiful day for painting yesterday.
I just couldn't help myself the tank was just asking for it.
I've put two coats on it and I couldn't be happier with it if I wonted to







These pictures show the depth of the colour much better it really is a Fire Engine Red!
I think it will suit the Indian down to the ground.

Today I'll get some paint on the tool box.
Stevens right about it being a little exciting I'm throwing way more paint around than I should at the moment.
I haven't used this particular paint before and I don't know just what you can and can't do with it yet.
But tomorrow I'll be able to sand back the paint on the battery box and apply a couple more coats to it.
That will pretty quickly let me know if the paints even half decent.

Sorry Trev, don't let my excitement for color get in the way of you doing things the way you originally wanted to.

Please, back as you were before i distracted you. Paint when you think it's the right time.

You haven't distracted me at all mate.
I've been working on this darn thing for so long it's just great to throw some colour at it!
I just love painting and I can't help myself.
I'm 90% sure the paint I'm using will hold a clear coat.
The tool box seems to have cured off quite well.
I think I'll sand it down to 600 this afternoon and give it a couple more coats.

But any muck up's are mine mate!

That fuel tank sure has a beautiful depth of colour if all the paint work turns out like this (which knowing you it will) it is going to be sensational

Not only does the paint look sensational, the finish of the structure it is on is also first class. You should go into painting hot rods as that is the quality of finish they usually have. Your father must have been a good teacher and you a good student.

It's a great time to mention The Grand Old Man his 91 today.
His in care now so I was down at the home for quite awhile.
It's not the way either of us would have wished things to be, but sometimes you just run out of options!

But his doing fine and I've still got a lot to learn!
If I was to say his the Greatest Man I'll ever know it would be understating the point!
My parents adopted me at birth.
Two more loving and caring people you'd never meet!
I've been very lucky to say the least.

I think he had a pretty good day.
We spent a lot of time talking about cars and bikes back in the day.
You'd given him a bit of a present yourself with the line in you're posted about painting hot rods.
He thought it would be priceless to see someone rollup with a beautifully chopped Chevy Coupe.
To find me standing there with a spray can in each hand and two dozen more on the floor.
Saying don't worry mate she'll be right

Later he went on to remind me of when I was a kid filling his lawnmower up with water
one day when I was trying to help with the gardening.
He reckoned he should have taught me more sooner!
