Axle pegs - Brisbane
I need some wooden axle pegs for toys and when I Google such, the only supplier's name that I get in Australia is Timbecon in Perth who charge $11 for delivery which is a bit much for about $2 worth of stuff.
Does anyone know where I can get such things in Brisbane, please?
This is the sort of thing that I am talking about ...

There are enough cane toads up your way I believe.
Catch a real one and use it for a knee construction job on yours.
Just joking.I get mine from USA but maybe you could get a friend to make them for you.I really cant see a cheaper way than what you just said $1.50 worth of parts and $11 post.Thats $2.00 each.Sure sounds alot.Back To Car Building & All The Sawdust.

Can you buy a swag full of them at the same delivery price? Then you can make more hoppers for more kids. There will always be more kids.

When Dad went nomadding he cleaned out his toolshed and gave me heaps of stuff. He gave me a little cardboard box of aluminium things that look exactly like those pegs. I think they're something to do with rivetting. They're hollow, about an inch long and the head is about 1/4" diameter.
Did you try toysnjoys?

Yup. That is what I have done. I have ordered a bunch of pegs and wheels from Timbecon to last me a year or so with toy projects.
However, it was awfully nice of Timbecon to stage a three day 15% discount sale on the very weekend that I have done this.
I searched around in Brisbane and the advice that I received from Carba-Tec and the wood turning supplier that they referred me to was that these things are not available anywhere on the east coast. So Timbecon has the market cornered in Australia. I don't think that it will make them rich though. Carba-tec in Perth also sell the pegs but not "over east" as the Perth people would phrase it.

Tried Spotlight? They have all manner of craft bits and pieces.

Yup, thanks. I tried Spotlight but did not see any there.
Carba-Tec in Brisbane referred me to a wood-turning supplier but both said that the only supplier that they knew in Australia is Timbecon in Perth and also the Perth Carba-Tec.
No matter now, I have my supplies and the quality is very good.

I've got a few spare if you get stuck. There are two sizes, 4.5mm diameter by 17mm long (excluding boss) and 6mm diameter by 30mm long (excluding boss). Surprised I've got'em here in Dubbo, but you can't get them in Brissy. A keen young fellow in Toowoomba runs Toowoomba Woodworks, give him a ring.

That is very generous of you, Keith. I am ok now though because I stocked up with quite a few for my next few projects. Many thanks.
Thanks also for the info. I shall look up the Toowoomba Woodworks fellow. That is very useful info.
Many thanks.

I have that same book and have been thinking of making some of the toys in it. My aunt picked it up for 1$ at a garage sale in Tillsonburg (which I'd be surprised if you knew where it was....). I'd be interested in knowing how some of them turn out. Good luck!
Oops, just saw your finished frog on another post! Nice.

I just bougth a heap of them too, from timbercon. I didn't mind the postage, considering that I couldn't get them anywhere else and it was overnight from Perth!
Wish I'd bought more though, I didn't know these little cars were so much fun!
Only problem I'm finding is that they are a tad long. Anyone know how to shave off about 4mm without removing fingers? Preferably something faster then whittling with a stanley blade

Well I can't seem to find any here in NZ, and I hate to think of what the postage here would be, espicially with the current exchange rate.
I recently made the monkey on the bike (plans on here somewhere) for my two boys and resorted to peening a brass rod to make the joints!
Not sure what I am going to do on the next project. Might try fashioning something using bits of dowel.

ElizaLeahy, it's time for you to purchase a Dremel tool kit. They have a tiny drum sander and a whole range of other devices for this kind of work. You can also shop around for Dremel look alikes as well. You do need a new toy . . .er tool every week to qualify as a forum member I think . . LOL.
