    Default Biplane for my grandson

My grandson asked me to make him some biplanes. He is 9 and one of his current fascinations is WW1. I am sure what he wanted was a couple peices of wood glued together so he could play with it immediately.

I took it a bit further. He picked out a picture on the internet of a British SE.5A and I said OK.

Here is what the plane looks like so far. I just took the pictures before the paint was to be applied. Then the wire cable will be applied.

I thought about trying to make it a true scale model, but took the easy way out. However,it is a nearly scale model of 1/16. The wingspan is right at 22 inches.

The body is glued up poplar, the two bi-wings are balsa, the tail wing is plywood.

I have a prop I made that will do until I find one that looks better.

Will post follow up pictures after the paint and wiring job.

Next he wants a German biplane.

Looking good, I bet your grandson is pleased with the look of that.
    Reality is no background music.
