Childrens Slide
Hey All,
Thought I might share an idea that was pretty easy to construct and found that my daughter enjoys this more than anything else I have made. It's a kids slide made from what most of us would have as scrap. There are some design improvements that could be made of course but initially it was all made without plans. Took about 2-3 hours to measure cut and join the slide, including the finding of materials. As we all know sanding, and finishing took a little longer! The video I made explaining it and plans is below.

Hope this can be used to inspire someone else out there to make a better slide! Any questions let me know.
Cheers,
Sam

A platoon at the top of the stairs would make it safer for unstable toddlers.

Thanks for the encouragement and tips, I think I would love to make a rocking-bike like Diggerdelaney for my son, but he is still only 4 months old. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f174/old-build-143366/
I still have a list of toys to make for the daughter but the boy will be catching up in no time!
Cheers,
Sam.

Hi Sam Great build on the slide
I have another thing that I personally would change is the top of the upright posts these I would round over.
Hope you do have a go at the bike I found it great fun there is a link in that post to the plans I used. If you do build it and have any questions certainly feel free to ask

What a top job Sam and well done with the you-tube clip too.
The slide is surely a hit with your little one but as you said it needs a finish.
I'd appreciate seeing the photos of the slide with the finish, please, PLUS some dimensions too, thank you.
Again, well done dad.
cheers, crowie

Digger - Yeah I would change a lot about the hand rail. I didn't know what to call the tool to cut holes for added grip when I made the video but after searching it I would use a hole saw to cut a bunch of grips for little hands in the rail and make it shorter and rounded over. Maybe I can make another and give the Mk1 away to a friend! I have already told the wife about the boys first toy I'm going to make him, I have 1 more project planned for the girl then motorbike rocker it is!
crowie - I have attached a bunch of pictures from sketch up that have all the dimensions you should need, but as discussed and in my opinion it is best to use them as a rough guide depending on how you want to improve it. Depending on how much time you can get away from the kids this is the fastest project I have completed but also the most dangerous (for the little ones)!
As for finishing the project, heh it is finished, at least in my books, as soon as varnish is applied there is no turning back, 3 coats of white and 2 coats satin varnish. Unless you mean the stickers on the side? I let the daughter decorate it a little as it was a packet of $2 shop stickers, the kind that leave chemical burns if applied to the skin for too long so better on the slide than on the back of her hand!

Thank you Sam and apologies for only watching 3mins.....
i'm looking at your design as a KindyGym aid, thank you.
I'll just need to work out how to safely make the slide & ladder removable for storage.

Hey Crowie,
I was thinking about your comment making it so it could be stored. I couldn't figure out an easy way to dismantle it but I thought it could be collapsed. Add some hinges on the slide and the ladder, bring in the pylons so everything attaches to them, add a 4th step so the kids can sit down on it and fix the handrail design.
I drew it up in sketch up and might make it if I feel that my dad could make use of it. It would still weigh a ton though as Mk1 was pretty tough to lug around, but the improved version will be easier to get through doors and transport on/in cars. When it is in storage mode it has a few more sharp points but of course with little kids around, be careful!
Cheers,
Sam
