    G'Day,

I was happy with my first go at glass etching but thought it could be better. Decided to have another "few" goes. After cutting up another 8 glass window panes (getting a lot better at glass cutting) I have come up with these 2 for the entry doors of the carriage. Had to make up new frames to fit the glass into the doors. Both doors will eventually have curtains - not sure on colour. Left the crown without a curtain at this stage and the other end is GR (for George Rex). It may possibly end up with different etched windows (seem to change my mind a lot) but this is it so far.

The full Royal Insignia will be hand painted on a plaque on the outside of the Entry Mezzanine Area (above the carriage coupling / buffers)

Have decided on the interior floor plan. Entry / Reception area (with a bar) - Conference Room - Private Sitting Room - Dinner Room - Royal Bedroom - Entry Area / Reception / Washroom.

    Regards

    Keith

    Looking good Keith.
Suggest with the curtains that they be attached at the top but tied at the sides. This allows some visibility so the staff know when to open the door for the VIPs. Also prevents the curtains from wearing as the door is open/closed and the movement of the carriage.

    Thanks Kevin.

Agree with you wholeheartedly. I just put the colours up to see which looks better. Royal Blue (no pun intended) looks better I think. Will of course have to have tassles as well. Have been on line again tonight and some Royal Carriages are indeed breathtaking. Extravagance seems to be the key word. Found one German carriage that looks like the outside is covered in gold. Would have to be fake surely. Anyway it's enjoyable building this carriage.

    Thanks for your comments

    Regards

    Keith

    Top Stuff Derek.

I saw some nutcrackers being made on "How It's Made" on TV. I really look forward to your colour scheme

    Hi All,

Hope all you fathers had a good Father's Day.

I have been working a bit on the first reception or entry area into the carriage. I have decided that all interior doors will be glass doors and that will allow better visibility throughout the carriage. There will bee curtains and drapes for some of the doors. The first photo shows the framing and the glass door in the reception area. This will also have a bar.
Decided that I would make some bottles of champagne (for the workers). These have been turned out of 12mm pine dowel. I used a dark "Brunswick Green" enamel for the bottle colour. The shiny glass effect was attained by giving a clear gloss enamel coating. The top is just aluminium coloured enamel brushed on. The labels are actual labels off the internet and scaled down to my size in Word and printed off. I am in the process of making some bottles of Port.
I have been worried about how I am going to get my sliding windows out for painting etc without having to dismantle my top plate each time. My mate Trev (Repliconics) said why not just slot the top plate - I am kicking myself - why didn't I think of that ? Thanks Trev. Makes life so much easier. Last 2 photos demonstrate that.

    Regards

    Keith

Which workers are the champagne for.

Great job Keith. Will you make some fillers for the window slots if so will you attack them to the roof to use as a locating pin so they serve two purposes

    Champers for me Derek

Good Idea about the locating slots mate The next level above the windows was going to have some highlight windows (about 15mm wide X 70mm long) and I priced some red glass (3mm) - $750 per square metre !!!!! I may see if I can tint some clear 2mm glass - 2mm glass is cheap

(Can't wait to see your finished soldiers)

    Regards

    Keith
