Hi guys,
Thanks for your kind comments and good banter. This is a great Forum.
Of course everyone is welcome to come along and make any comment they like.
Yes the drawings are going to be invaluable for me. There are some good photos of First class compartment on the internet as well. I may go up to Maldon or some other Railway that has the "old" compartments in carriages so I can take my own photos.
The Queenscliff - Drysdale Railway may have as well - will check it out.
Fletty - for you - because it is my carriage AA/AB/Charlie or whatever - I will give it a loo (and handbasin of course). We may have to reduce passengers - but passenger comfort is paramount
I am loving this build already - I think the Tank loco staring at me everyday will be inspiring to give it (or maybe another loco in the future) - a carriage.
Thanks guys
Keith

Keith, I think you should look at it this way. Less passengers means;
- fewer leather seats to sew
- fewer satene curtains to hem
- an opportunity to search for 1/7th loo and hand basin AND
a fabulous opportunity to get your sign man to make an historically accurate sign advising that.....
PASSENGERS WILL PLEASE REFRAINand this will, in turn, give an opportunity for one of the forum pen turners to create a 1/7th scale vessel?
FROM PASSING WATER WHILE THE TRAIN
IS WAITING AT THE STATION FOR A WHILE
IF YOU FEEL YOU MUST PASS WATER
WILL YOU PLEASE INFORM THE PORTER
HE WILL PLACE A VESSEL IN THE CORRIDOR
I could go on but I think the nurses are already looking for me.......

I traveled to school every day in one of those carriages. Actually that was the girls carriage and we weren't supposed to be in there.
It did have a loo and a hand basin that folded up into the wall. There was no drain hole in the basin, it had a chute at the back. The water would empty out the chute as you folded the basin up.
It also had chemical foot warmers. Big metallic cylindrical things that you shook up to warm them. Very nice on a chilly Victorian morning. Unfortunately they all ended up out the train window and into the river as we went across the bridge. Same as anything that wasn't bolted down.
Watching with nostalgic interestThose were the droids I was looking for.

Bugger, didn't think that through properly. Happy for Keith1 to take us for a ride, fares were probably about a penny, which falls into the discussion Fletty and Keith1 are having regarding 'spending a penny'. If the fare is also 1/7th scale, I doubt if it would be worthwhile trying to collect the fares from you blokes.
My redundancy pay seems to be diminishing at a great rate based on fares collected, so I think I should just sit back and watch as the build continues.

Hi guys,
Back on the carriage after an awkward weekend - we won't go there.
Been working on the wheels of the bogies on the carriage. Drilled the shaft holes in the inner hubs using 7/8" Forstner bits. They have to be the best drilling bits ever.
I then cut out the centres of the outer wheel rims on the scroll saw and then used spindle sander to get a sliding fit between the inner hub and outer wheel rim. Numbered each inner and outer so they were matched correctly.
Then I cut out the spokes on the inner hubs. They were then glued to the outer rims ensuring they run concentric (happy with that)
These will be left overnight so the glue dries. Will then file up and sand the spokes. Coming along OK.
Regards
Keith
PS - does anyone know how to insert the photos so they are in correct sequence - or is it luck of the draw - inserted a,b,c and d in that sequence

Hi Peter,
This may give a better idea of the size.
I have taken photos of original bogies and put my wheels on top (just to demonstrate) The photo of the AB carriage is 1/7th scale to original and I have positioned the photos and wheels in approximate bogie positions. The Coke can gives a bit of size perspective.
Regards
Keith

Keith, after you upload the photos click the done button at the bottom to close the box. Put your cursor in the position where you want your photo and then click the paper clip button in the icons above. It will show the file names of what you have uploaded and you select which one you want to insert. When it has appeared on the screen just press the space bar a couple of times to move the cursor over to create a space and then go through the same sequence for each remaining photo.
Give me a call if that doesn't make sense.Dallas
