Have a look at this link, Workshop Updates at the section on Fox Bogie Progress, it might be of interest.
    Kevin,

Thanks - what a great link. Maybe further along with my working at the Bellarine Railway I will be able to be much more knowledgable on railway terminology. Thanks again

    Hi Derek

Thanks for your kind comments about the bogie. After this - still another to do - a long task this build.

Should I be game enough to ask - what were you doing in the middle of a field ? Don't answer if you don't want to mate

    Regards

    Keith

When you said steam rally, for a moment I thought you might have been at Lake Goldsmith, Victoria, Australia over the weekend. But then I remembered that you are in the UK and it is a little far to travel for a stall.

    Hi All,

I have been working on the hornplates on the bogie. The original had a cast rim around them, so I tried to copy that. In my previous post I drew up and cut out the basic horn plate. To add the rim, I reduced my drawing by 14% in size and then printed that out - it gives me a 3mm rim to play around with. I glued the drawing onto 3mm MDF and the cut out the centre with the scroll saw. I then glued the outer section to the main hornplate body and let it dry for 24 hours. Then I cut the 3mm MDF back to the main body - then filed and sanded (the 3mm MDF is only red because it is an old piece of offcut that I had laying around and painted it red for another job).
I then sanded the rim down to 1.5mm using 80 and then 120 grit paper. Then rounded the edges using 120 grit.
Quite happy with how it looks on the bogie (just sitting there) There is another side of the hornplate and when complete will be the support for the top spring plate. Have added the photo of the beer can to show the size.
Am now working on the other bogie as well so I can get them both looking exactly the same.

Below are the photos of how I made the rim on the hornplate.

    Regards

    Keith

    Looks authentic.
Its almost the end of the week, you deserve a drink.

Just as well you are only doing one vehicle, and not half a dozen.
