Default Brain teaser for the older kids and adults

Here is some fun for older kids and adults to puzzle their brain.

Those of you who have seen the recent movie "The rise of the planet of the apes" will have seen the ape in the opening scenes successfully playing with this. In the movie they mention it as "Jacobs Tower "but in fact the proper name for it is "The Tower of Hanoi"

In the movie the ape did it with 4 discs, this version is played with 7 discs and of course is not so easy.

This picture shows you what the whole thing consists of..

Next picture shows how the game begins.

And lastly how the game has to finish.

The object of the game is to start with the discs on the far side left peg away from the black peg in order of size, Largest disc at the bottom and the smallest disc on the top and to move these discs so that they are in the same order on the black peg at the end of the game.

Rules are simple, you can only move one disc at a time and it can only be placed on a larger disc than itself. In other words, you cannot place a big disc on a smaller one.
Any disc can be placed on a peg if it has no other disc on it.

The minimum moves it takes to compete this game successfully is 127

Remember, you can only move one disc at a time.

The game is simple to make and will pass many hours away trying to solve it.

If you would like to know the formula for completing the game in the minimum 127 moves. send me a PM and I will send you the solution.

There is no trick to this, it can be done and is a lot of fun.

I say this game is for older children and adults because of the small pieces.
A game suitable for younger children could be made with larger discs.
    Reality is no background music.
    Cheers John

Hi Jill, I am always looking out for something to challenge me.
This isn't really my idea, it apparently is an old puzzle and is played with up to 9 discs.
The method of solving it is the same for 7 or 9 discs, it just takes longer to do with more discs. Glad you like it. Easy to make and a lot of fun.

Here is a pic of a smaller version I made. I didn't colour the discs in this one but I thought the colour discs in the larger game makes it a bit easier to identify the discs.
