Cooking up a storm
I really know why I retired. It doesn’t get much better than this.
My son recently wanted some advice and time in my shed. He and his SWMBO designed a play kitchen for their daughter’s second birthday which was two days ago. She (my Granddaughter) loved to be part of food preparation and my son previously made a stand for her to get up to bench height. I made her a play stove and she had pans and “crockery” that she used regularly. She had also taken over one of the drawers in the main kitchen for her plates and cutlery.

The design for the new play kitchen had to have a deep drawer, an oven with knobs just like the Smeg one, handles to match the big kitchen, an overhead shelf, and a canopy so that the kitchen could also be used for a “shopfront”.

Materials used were mainly 19mm radiata pine, 3 ply and a laminated piece from the Big Green Shed for the benchtop. Drawer insides were recycled Oregon (Douglas Fir).

My son is very fussy and insisted on soft-closing drawer runners.

He spray-painted the knobs and dowel oven racks with chrome paint. The oven door has a magnetic closer.

As I said at the start, it doesn’t get much better than this. Being in the shed with my son, making a special gift for my granddaughter. It sure beats work.
